The seal where the rear drive line leaves the transfer case is leaking again???:mad:

Had the stealer replace this seal at about 20K. I now have 62K. Is there a more permanent fix to this problem? Or is this just something to look forward to like dying lift pumps and bad fuel???:eek: :--) :{

Have 4000 miles on my 2002 3500 and found it was leaking going to the stealer on thrusday for the first fix hope its the only one I have to go through.

Every time I go to a Dodge service its a bad trip thay never fix it right the first time. It takes about 3 trys for them to get it right.

JB,

How handy are you? I would replace it myself, now that your warrenty is up. There's just 6 bolts and the drive shaft's slide-out. Then check the shaft that rides on the seal for burs of scratches. Pop-out the old seal and replace, its that easy.

Good Luck!

It isn't hard! I did it on my quad cab long bed dually and it was a little harder b/c I had to remove the rear drive shafts but that was the only hard part. The seal is really easy and it works. Make sure you get the new one though, not the old ones Dodge is trying to pawn off.

seal replacement

Before pulling drive line to replace seal, get hold of yoke and move up and down and check bushing clearance. If clearance is excessive a new seal alone won't cure the leak. Have seen many of these that had worn bushings with no apparent damage or wear to yoke. When knocking out seal, use caution as housing is fairly thin and can be broken. Good Luck.
