2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission '00 Truck Exhaust Rots off at 58,000 miles??????????

Got to the Pontiac Excitement (Spring Nationals) and noticed my tail pipe was hangin wierd, well it sure was, the dang muffler end of the tail pipe was gone.



Took tail pipe off yesturday and the whole top of the tail pipe was rotten! This truck gets treated like a "China Doll" it has 58,000 miles and is Never off Road. I have not had to replace an exhaust component on any of my Chrysler products since my '85 D-150 lost a tail pipe probably back around '95.



I am going to replace the entire system, and I want a muffler. What would you guys recommend for under $500!



When I get done with this thing It won't be a Dodge anymore--it will be mostly After Market!

I made a straght piped five inch exhaust for way under five hundred, but what you should do seeing you dont want to buy a 1000 dollar exhaust is go to a big truck shop and buy a kenworth or peterbuilt muffler for your truck and then the rest of you parts, tail pipe, down pipe etc. and attach them all. If you go and buy a dodge muffler it will cost u like 150 when u can get a semi truck muffler for 65 bucks!

Not all that unusual for any of the Dodges up to the 2003's! The systems were all aluminized from the factory and the stock muffler had drain holes in it that were pretty bad about holding water so the moisture really worked on both the inside and theoutside at the same time. You're from Ohio which has some pretty hefty salt use during the winter too!



In 2003 Dodge went to a 409 stainless, it'll still get brown, gray and get some rust spots on it but in most cases it'll last a looong time.



We have mufflered systems available in aluminized, 409 and 304 stainless. The 304 comes with a dual wall 5 inch tip and is the longest lasting material you'll find in an aftermarket exhaust system. It also stays real shiny and pretty if that's inportant to you.

like BlowinBlackSmoke said, you can build your own for way under $500 if money is tight. I think I have $125 into mine. I bought some thick 4" pipe, a few 90* ells and a polished tip. A muffler woud be more ( I don't have one ).



BTW, stacks won't rust over the axle!
