I threw a 0088 code today. I know its a high rail pressure code but what is causing it? It happened while I was playing with the TST. I was passing a friend of mine on the road today and deceided to blow a little smoke in his face, so I quickly set the TST to 6/6, but I accidently set it to 6/8. I've never had it above 6/6 before as I still have the stock turbo in the truck. I was going about 45 when I punched it to make the pass. Truck seemed normal but smoked like crazy( couldn't see truck behind me) I thought to myself there went a gallon of fuel out the tail pipe. Truck defueled when I hit 1350, my EGT preset, but I was away around him by then.

Any way I thought all was well but when I let off the pedal it sounded like the timing was way far advanced and I noticed the MIL on. I set the Tst back to my normal setting, 2/1, and went on down the road. Truck seemed peppier than normal and still sounded as if timing was to high.

I been in and out of the truck all day and started it at least a dozen times. Usally any code from the Tst clears after a couple restarts, but this one is persistant. Any ideas?

Wouldn't popping the relief valve cause the rail presure to drop? I'm also concered with the timing clatter that I am hearing.

Nobody else have any ideas. I'm stuck at home today because I scared to drive it. I tried this morning and it sounded like it was running on starting fluid. I cleared the code with one of the cheap autozone scan tools but 0088 keeps coming back.

Worth a shot, but have you tried disconnecting the batteries and see if it clears anything, worse comes to worse take the TST out and see what happens.
