how does the rear rotors come off on an 01' 3500. it almost looks like you have to pull the axle shaft then the hub nut and pull the hub off and then maybe the rotor is bolted on to the hub from the back side!?!?!?1 am i any what close to how this works????? :confused:

That's pretty much it. And the hub nuts are one time use nylocks, with a plastic "wedge" (also one time use) that also locks the nut in place. When I had mine off, I got the kit from quad4x4 that upgrades to a double-nut setup that elimintates the one time use limitation.



And if I remember correctly, the disks ARE part of the hubs, not bolted on.



And it's really cool when the pads fall apart when you take the caliper off (friction material just falls off the backing plates). Rear brakes squeak with your foot off the pedal? Your pads have probably separated. Both sides of mine fell apart, with plenty of wear material left at 80k.

well unless they sold me the wrong rear rotor (very possible) it looks like they bolt together im gunna dig into it and see ..... hope this doesnt turn into an ugly project :{

They actually come off really easy. Just pull the hub staight off and make sure you don't drag the seal (inner hub) against the threads on the axle. And the nuts and keepers are technically one-time-use items, so they should be replaced, too. They're only few bucks to replace, and since they're the only things that keep your rear wheels on they're cheap insurance.



Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with the rotors?
 
the brakes started grinding on the way home from picking up the truck fom Illonios. it was a 440 mile trip.



i did the brakes last night and found out that i need a caliper now. the piston was cracked.



the brakes arnt to bad to just starting to get expensive
