2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 01.5 ac quit

Its geting warm in the DFW area this week so naturaly the ac decieded to stop working today..... I did drive it last weekend and it was just fine.

Here is what I checked:

All fuses are ok

Compresor seams to be just fine (engages when ac is on. cycles normaly)

Vaccum is good and holding,no leaks)

Servo motor for the blend door is operating when I switch from hot to cold.



Yet all I get out of the vents is ambiant air..... mo cooling at all!

Any Ideas b4 Im going to have to take it to the worst Dodge dealer in the Metroplex ( I will not mension names but to the benefit of the locals..... its north of Leisville)... ... ... ... Joe

How fast is the compressor cycling in and out? If it's going pretty quick, you're probably low on R134a. Hopefully you'll get by with just a recharge (you can pick up a kit at Wal-Mart to test and charge).



If you are low on R134a, you probably have a leak somewhere. If that's the case, you'll need to have someone locate the leak for you. I just had my evaporator and accumulator replaced about a month back due to a leak.

I second the kit at wal mart. I had some 134 leak out last summer, and I got their little hose, and a couple of cans of the pre mixed 134, oil, and leak stopper. It's worked ever since. The leak stopper really does what it says. Be sure to get a kit with a pressure gauge on it, because the a/c won't work if overcharged either. Spend 40 bucks to try it yourself before you spend 400 to get the dealer to do it. One can only screw it up so much.

had that problem on my truck the first year I had it.

It ended up being the accumulator. Of course it took DC twice to get it done right.

If the 24V's are similar to the 12V's in respect to A/C units then my guess would be the ceramic coated transducer (I think it's a transducer) on the passenger side under the dash. My 12V had the same symptoms a couple of years ago. About $35 and a simple fix. If you've been trying to run the A/C when you change it, be careful, it will be HOT.

Hi Guys ,thanks for all the responses.

I haven't checked the system pressures as I don't own a r134 gage set, however the compressor kicks in and cycles normally in Idle ,the same as it been doing allways,beside if the compressor does work but the gas was low I whould have got SOME cool air coming out... . this one acts as if the compressor is off ... its just recirculating ambient air... . that leads me to believe that what ever device that circulates the air thru the core is not working...

but I haven't had the time to play with it yet...

OH here is the kicker... I'm out of warranty by less then 2 month...

kudos to the engineer that designed the system to last exactly the length of the warranty..... Joe
