Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Mystery clunk

I am getting the 1693 PCM camshaft position sensor voltage low code and the companion 0341 ECM code. The check engine light is now on and recently the tach needle went haywire and the truck very briefly stumbled a bit.

I had the intake and turbo pipe off and it is really tight to get at the sensor. It appears that I must pull the VP 44 to get at the thing. Having done that some time ago, I'd sure hate to take that pump out and back again.

Any tips out there? Also I can't really tell what size the Allen head? socket bolt is that holds the sensor to the back of the timing gear case.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

It's a bear to get to with the VP-44 in place - I'd try unplugging it, spraying with some TV "Tuner tonic/contact cleaner" and reassembling first. Takes small hands and LARGE patience otherwise - as I recall the retaining bolt is an 8 or 10mm...

If you have small hands, you can get them out with out removing the VP44. I personally can not get my hands in there, but I witnessed a friend of mine (the A in MAD ECMs) do it to my truck, so I know it can be done.

Thanks Carl,

Yeah, I can just get far enough in to touch the thing. Do you happen to know what the size of Allen wrench is needed, maybe its not and Allen wrench but some other type. I've tried everythinh I have and don't seem to hook up. .

Thanks Again
