01.5 cat guttin?

i took the cat off to rid it of its guts but there were no guts to rip!!! whats the deal on these new cats? not like my 94. the 01 cat was straight through with some guts just stuck to the sides. do these new ones restrict the flow any?? higher egt's?? i put it back on so i could make my test run with the pmx3 but i believe im gonna go get a straight pipe and just leave it off.

That is not a cat, it's a resanator(sp). The 24 valves don't need a cat.

bob,,whats the difference in a cat and a resonator? will removing it help egt's ?

Bob's right . . no cat on the 24v's.

From what I remember the resonator is to help with the exhaust noise.

Search the threads . . most all folks that go straight . . usually put the resonator back and run without the muffler.

thanks,,i haven't been around the 24v forum very long so all this stuff is new to me. the new trucks are alot different than my 94. it can get a little confusing sometimes having two trucks that are very much the same on some subjects and very different on others

They sound pretty good with just the resonator. You get the turbo chirp of the straight pipe, but without the "barking. " I tried it on mine for a couple days, but decided it just wasn't loud enough! #ad

The resonator without the muffler sounds pretty good.

How loud is loud? My 1/2 ton has the 360 and I run no muffler, just cat and 3" out in front of the rear wheels. Is no muffler on the Cummins louder than that?
