2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 01.5 compared to 02

Are there any differences between the 01. 5 and the 02 models? If there are, what are they? (Looking forward to getting one of them. )

Not as far as I'm aware, although there were a number of items that started to be deleted in 2001. My 2001. 5 had the rear cup holders, wheelwell liners and underhood insulation, but didn't have the passenger visor mirror or grab handle. So, I speculate that some of the '01. 5's still have a few of these items, but none of the 2002 models would. Pretty minor, in any case.

My 02 has no hood insulation, no passanger mirror on the visor, but does have a grab handle for the passanger. I also believe they deleted the in fender wells in the rear if I am not mistaken. Minor stuff.

As you can see... . get the 01. 5. They are the same trucks but the 02 are missing things because Dodge is getting cheap.

During the 2002 model year, DC (well, probably Dana) did away with the center axle disconnect on the Dana 60 front axle. The majority of '02 trucks do not have a center disconnect. This means that when you are in 2wd, your front axle and front drive shaft will turn. The nice thing is, when you pull that lever, you're in 4x4 guaranteed. Downside? Can't go the 2wd low conversion.



As stated above, DC did away with passenger side grab handles, underhood insulation (although you can put this in yourself), and some other small things.



My opinion? If the trucks are dead even in your mind as to which one you would want to own, I'd base my decision on this: If you want interior goodies and hood insulation, go with the 01. 5. If you want a 4x4 system that won't leave you stranded when you have vaccum issues, get the 2002.

A lot of the missing small items on the '02s are most likely due to production issues rather than anything else.



For the '02 model year, the 1/2 tons were already in the new body style, so that's several hundred thousand fewer grab handles, liners, etc. to be used in that style.



Basically, Dodge tried to use up the remaining supply of those parts in late '01, early '02 so that they wouldn't be stuck with an excess amount of leftovers. Thus early '02s often have all of the same accessories, but late '02s such as mine are missing the wheel liners, lighted mirror, hood insulation, rear cupholders (but it does have the grab handle).....



I would like to find some sort of manual locking hubs for the front axle though..... not keen on rotating all of those drivetrain components full-time.

The radiator and intercooler werent painted on my 02 along w/ the lack of rear cup holder, vanity visor mirrors, pass. grab handle, rear wheel well inserts, hood insulation.

01. 5 here with 4-wheel disc brakes. Passenger grab handle on A-Pillar, driver and passenger vanity mirrors and 4 wheel well liners. No rear cup holders, No under hood insulation, no tail gate panel. Must have been a different production line every day?

My 02 does not have the tailgate black panel. Seems like 01s had that.



Personally, I'd rather not have it... .

My '01. 5 didn't have the tailgate black panel. I didn't think any '01's did, but I could be wrong.

Mine didnt have the black panel on the tailgate but it does have the rear cup holders

my o2 had grab handles hood isulation rear cup holders and all of the stuff you 01. 5 say you didnt get i also got powered flip up tow mirrors 4 wheel disc but i didnt get the fender well protectors and my block wasnt painted oh well i still love my truck

Mine has 1 grab handle I think its the lower one bout half way down the pillar

My question is why is the grab handle on the pax side? If theres a pax there is a driver. Theory would lead to you believe that a handle on the drivers side would get more use.



Mine is an 01. Wish I had discs on all four corners.



I have noticed on my buddies 02 that the styling on the doors is different. The airbag cover is different. Minor stuff though.

Another thing I've noticed. My 2002 has an underhood light (about 0. 5 candle power I think) and my friend's 2003 does not.
