For all you guys who have 4. 10 differentials, and especially if your truck has two of them, quit trying to swap them to 3. 54's. Instead, install an overdrive transmission.

The cost will be about the same, maybe even a bit lower. In overdrive, you will have about a 3. 25 differential ratio equivalent. You will not increase the load on the clutch and transmission. You will gain an additional gear between each of your current gears.

I like the U. S. Gear overdrive, but the GearVendors works too. You can't use 4WD with a GearVendors unit. You can with a U. S. Gear.

Check it out. You'll like the flexibility.

John,

I think he is concerned about the oil in his transmission, not the engine. I hope you don't have that diesel engine oil in your transmission.

When I changed the transmission oil in my 2000 model year six-speed, it took about 3. 5 quarts of the Chrysler spec. oil. Loren

Yes that is what I've been using in mine for 5 years. It sounds crazy but there are many TDR members running it. Even Amsoil recomends it for the NV5600.

John,

Thanks for the information. I had not heard that and I'm a big Amsoil fan. For me, it doesn't matter anymore now. I wrecked that truck last November and have replaced it with the new 2008 (see signature). I haven't even looked yet to see what kind of oil the new G56 will require.

I'd go with 6qts. of Redline MTL, Pennsoil Syncromesh, or the factory fluid from the dealer. I was running the Royal Purple Syncromax in mine, and didn't care for the shifting. Switched to the MTL, and it shifts much better now. But get that gear oil out of your transmission now, before it causes any damage to the bearings. And 6qts is actually over filling by a qt. or 2. This way you don't starve the input shaft bearing or your output bearing for oil when climbing a steady grade. You can either fill it through the top pto cover bolt, or remove your center consol and shifter and fill it through there. Thats how I did it.

And if you wanna try bleeding your clutch hydraulics, remove the slave cyl. from the bell housing and back bleed the system by pushing the slave cyl. push rod in and out by hand. I think this is how must guys bleed them out.
