I'm thinking of going with the DTT trans for $3300. What could I get for my stock '01 with 3000 miles ?

Bombs include bigger injectors, turbo, comp box etc. Would the trans be overkill ? Is the TC and VB for $1300 enough ?

I want to deal with the trans only once.

Thanks,

Big Sur

Bill will not turn your pockets inside out

he will only sell you the VB & TC and update kit and injectors and PDR Super turbo and etc etc etc

Call Bill, and don't be surprised if he tells you that he won't sell you a complete transmission. The tc, vb, and update kit are all you need. If you are dead set on the whole transmission you can probably get it from him, but he will try to sway you to the parts. He stands to make more money on the whole transmission, but he just isn't wired like that.

I was thinking that you could get someone (DTT approved) to update your transmission with the 5 clutch pack with the band and lube improvements out the door in your truck for around $2500. 00 and you could save the shipping cost ect. That's what I'm looking at instead of buying a transmission and doing the install myself..... FYI

do something to the front pump ??? thats news to me ... i'll have to call . .

as far as this goes , the trans is $3300 , plus shipping , plus a core charge , if you don't return your trans , more shipping , you lose the core , which i think is $850 , so you have to sell your trans for at least that to get your core back and not have to lose on return shipping , then there is install labor ...

cheaper to upgrade your trans by a long shot , bill will tell you the same thing .

are you building a race truck ???

i think he said that with the new valve bodies some of the 01's were blowing seals. i asked bill about a friends 95 and he said we would have to replace the front pump with a modified one. he said he would send me a pump ready to put in and i could send my core back to him. he said some of the 01's had the same problem.

The lip seal is changed on the pump. The seal is included in the update kit. According to my DTT approved installer (James Northram in Dallas) this seal is very important, as the original one is a piece of junk.

the seal lip seal is not in the pump , its in the front clutch drum , at least thats the seal i have been replacing . its not that the seal is bad , DC's vendor machining the drum is cutting the seal groove to deep .

I guess you could look at it either way. But it seems to me that since the groove was that deep that they should have come with a thicker seal from the factory. Instead they just slapped the transmission together with a inferior (to thin) seal. James showed me the original seal and the replacement one and this should have been a 25 cent fix from the factory.

guys maybe that's what he was talking about. i'm not a slush box guy. but he told me it would take them around 1hr of shop time to upgrade whatever it is.

i don't want to get into a debate , but its not so much that the seal is inferior , if you were to put the seal in a drum that didn't require it you will have a hard time getting the apply piston back in , if it will go in at all . when you buy a seal kit from a trans parts supplier , it comes with both seals and you use the one the drum you have requires ... either way it seems that its a problem that DC missed ... they claim it was taken care of but that doesn't seem to be the case .
