Actually it is a Ford/ New Holland EC240 excavator. We rented it in because our awsome Isuzu powered 120,000 pound Hitachi is a bit overkill for this job. Imagine my surprise and delight when I lifted the engine cover in the a. m. to check fluids to find a big blue "C" staring at me. B5. 9, 12 valve, Bosch P7100, HX40. The data plate said '01 Ca. certified plus all the other usual stuff you find on a data plate including 185 hp @ 2100.
For those who might think these things can't take a beating think again! I started that thing up, waited about thirty seconds and throttled it right up to 2050 rpm where it stayed about 99% of my 9 hour day. I'm working with a new ground guy that needs a lot of instruction so I would shut it off w/o throttle down, yell at him for a minute, and start it right back up where, since I left the throttle wide open, would shoot right back to 2050 where I would continue to flog the machine in the rock (It is a rental after all!)
Tough machine with 445 hours on the meter and ran flawlessly. Amazing to find 12 valves installed new in anything these days ESPECIALLY in California. Great machine. Now if I can only rent in a machine with a Powerstroke. I won't hold my breath!
