What is the difference in the HO and standard output motors, besides the power output? Is it just electronics or is it other mechanical parts? I am upgrading to a Helix2 and would love to make a few bucks by selling the cam. Is it the same for all motors or did it vary? Anyone with an interchange book is more than welcome to chime in! :)

The ECM, the VP-44 pump and the injectors, which are actually smaller, are the only differences I remember. It came with the NV-5600, but we're talking motor.

I do know the cam is the same, so no joy on the resale. Sorry.

I believe that the HO has smaller injectors, higher pressure on the fuel lines going to the injectors, different VP-44 (elctronics and/or the tuning?), different pistons (to make the higher compression ratio), oil cooling nozzles for oil cooling of the underside of the pistons, NV-5600 trans. (6-Speed), different turbos. I think those are all of the changes. Hope this helps.
I can say that a search of the TDR will give you the results for sure, just adjust the total number of search items.

I copied the info. below from this website: Dodge Ram Diesel Engine Evolution

2000 ISB engine changes (begins July 1999)

  • The red and silver aluminum valve cover replaced by a black and silver magnesium cover.
  • The wiring harness was revised to plug directly into the fuel transfer (lift) pump, which no longer has a pigtail connector.
  • The fuel filter is redesigned resulting in a new top loading fuel filter housing and filter element.
  • The low pressure fuel system added fuel inlet and outlet pressure test ports. Fuel line routing changed to accommodate the test port connections.
  • A 10 cm2 HY35W turbocharger replaced the HX35W turbo.
2001 ISB engine changes (begins Jan 1, 2000)

  • 235hp / 460 ft. lb. ETC engine installed in 5-speed and automatic equipped trucks
    • ETC continues to use a 10cm2 HY35
  • 245hp / 505 ft. lb. ETH engine became available with the DEE 6-speed.
    • ETH returns to the 12cm2 HX35W turbocharger.
    • ETH receives a higher output fuel injection pump.
    • Compression ratio is increased from 16. 3 to 17. 0.

The differences in the injector pump are 1) smaller diameter cylinders & 2) a more aggressive cam. I'm not sure but I believe the electronics are the same. It may have different programing in the ECM. I remember Marco found something like 12 different stock fueling programs on different models, when he was testing the CaTCHER programs for Smarty.

Are you sure about the cam? Not being a doubter here, just yours is the only post to state that. That would make mine worth more:) Where did you find that info?

thanks

not sure I remember which vendor chimed in on a thread about the HRVP. I'd mentioned the cylinder diameter& he added the bit about the cam.

I think the compression ratio and injectors are the only differences. And the differences are higher compression and smaller injectors.
