Where do you tap into the fuel system on the 01 to pick fuel psi? my 99 ram was on top of the filter, I don't see anything on my 01. Next I want to go to synthetic oil in the rear end. What oil is evyone using? also I am looking at relocating and replacing the lift pump to a location back by the tank. What set up is working. I would realy like to add the air dog set up, but I just got the truck and that would not go over to good with the wife to spend a another $550. The truck has a banks 4" exhaust, banks high ram intake and kn filter intake. I need to add gauges and a tunner box but first things first. Also My engine oil drain plug needs to be replaced. What does everyone think of those finger touch plugs from genos garage. Thanks

There are several ideal locations to serve as a fuel pressure location. The one I chose was on top of the fuel filter housing... . give Geno's a call and order their metal filter housing cap which will replace the plastic one you have now. It has a 1/8 fpt tap to accomodate the sender. Great piece!Others will offer ideas also but this is what worked for me and is simple to do.

Dodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage or 800-755-1715

Part # LT-FFCPP $59. 00

Geno's also has the drain plugs of various different types... get out the catalog and check it out or go online and see.

I use Royal Purple with the Mopar additive. others here will tell you their choices as well.

I read over what I had wrote and mistakenly found that I misread that you are already aware of Geno's Garage.:rolleyes::confused::):):)

roller1000,

Hey dude! Welcome to the TDR!

I would suggest a tapped banjo fitting from Geno's which replaces the banjo fitting at the fuel inlet of the VP.

First gauge is the fuel pressure, absolutely. I would delay any fuel pump decision until you see what the current pump is doing, no need to replace/upgrade until it starts getting below 5 psi. The AirDog is a great choice, mine has over 300,000 with only filter changes.

I used Royal Purple in BlackSheep and it can be bought at O'Reilly's.

Godspeed,
Trent

I'd also suggest the tapped banjo bolt at the pump for fuel pressure. The tapped cap only shows PRE filter pressures, and will not show a filter restriction.

As far as relocating the pump, I used the Vulcan kit from Genos (the basic one). So far so good. It's only been about a year, so I can't speak for long term reliability. But swapping pumps will be easy now if it does fail. I see about 15-16psi at idle, and 10 psi at full throttle. Plenty of supply for 450hp-ish. That's also with a big line kit from the filter to the injection pump (Geno's also has those, and I think they include a tapped port for fuel pressure in one of the elbows - that'll take care of your first question, too).

I also have one of those finger touch valves. Love it. Every truck needs one.

I installed the vulcan big line kit, it comes with fitting to install a line for a press. ga. . I ussed An Issspro mechanical W/ an isolator. Royal purple 85-140 in rear axle w/ mopar L/S additive. Fuel pressure adapter is located at inlet on injection pump. lets me know when my filter is pluging up. I have also been using the finger touch oil drain. Installed it 3 yrs ago approx 65,000 mi. works great.

I monitor my fuel pressure using a special banjo bolt where the fuel line enters the VP44. If you go this route, it's a good idea to either replace all the banjo bolts with high flow units or use one of the big line kits available. Your idea of relocating the factory pump is a very good idea... IF the factory pump is still in good condition. If it's not working well, don't waste your $$ on another factory pump. Buy one of the many performance pumps available. I've been running a Walbro 392 for about 3 years and it's been flawless.

If you're gonna spend the $$ on synthetic oil, Amsoil is the way to go.

I liked the banjo bolt option as mentioned (doesn't interfere with routine fuel filter changes). I monitor fp at the VP also (instead of before the filter for example) and replaced all the banjo bolts with the high flow type from Geno's. Check out the big-line kit also. I added a needle valve to dampen any pressure pulses to the gage.

I like synthetic oils (-50F is not uncommon where I live) and use Amsoil's 75-140 Severe Gear in the rear dif.

Geno's has a fp relocation kit for stock lp. My 2nd lp has been working fine in stock location for 5yrs now (knock on wood). I carry a spare under the seat (bought it back when they were cheap). I recall reading about glacier pumps - seems they were a less expensive option, and may work with the aforementioned relocation kit.
