2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 01 steering

2001, 4X4, I have replaced the ball joints recently, the track bar, added a DSS and it goes down the road pretty good but lately I have been able to feel bumps and variances in the road back through the wheel. Yestrerday I noticed when I am driving slow on a rough road and let go of the steering wheel, I can see the wheel move as it goes over little ruts and ridges. Could this be the steering stabilizer or some other weird second gen thing. I have almost 200,000 on my first gens and the steering is still very tight.

Replace it! Cheap

My drag link connection at the pitman arm needed replaced. It was totally shot after 18 months and suffered similar symptoms. I had replaced all steering linkages with the '99 HD steering link conversion suggested and done by many members here on TDR.



I was told by an off road suspension person that the steering stabilizer for our trucks was a band aid for a poor design. With stock wheels and height a steering stabilizer should not be needed. Many that have done the conversion have yet to add a stabilizer back onto their trucks. After 2 years I added a stabilizer and it improved highway fatigue due to tracking irregular pavement.
