What kind of "chip" should my dad put on his 6.0 ford.

Saw this from a link at the diesel stop. The poster (who claims he will be buying an 05 Dodge/Cummins, cross our fingers) saw this on ebay and could not believe it! I posted on it to clear things up for him under "UApilot"

His ebay seller name is "jetpilot320". Thats not the legendary jet pilot is it? Maybe he actually is a pilot? Airbus makes an A320 commercial jet.

Did you read the first thread on that diesel-stop forum? That guy trying to dog him saying he was'nt for real and were is the other turbo? What a rookie.

Yeah he was a rookie. But we all were once. I bet even at one time Jet Pilot said the same thing to another guy about not twin turboing a Dodge :)

I'm not trying to bash the guy or anything, but on the second page, a Duramax owner says that the "damx seems to be able to handle any amount of rwhp as long as you keep the boost under about 40-45 psi". He's sort of criticizing the multi turbo'd Cummins, claiming the stock single on the dmax is all it will ever need. Well as far as I know more hp means more fuel. More fuel means more air. So if you're trying to stuff more air into any constant volume, the pressure raises. I don't keep up with the dmax, but if they are using the stock turbo and making 600~700+ hp, either the egt's are crazy or they're cramming alot of nitrous into it. I know that different engine designs get different power with different boost pressures, but making 600+ hp with the stock turbo at 40-45 psi? Seems like it would need more air.

You think that people being clueless as to the potiental of the Cummins is bad? I love it. Nothing beats a sleeper. :D

Brian, I agree on the 'more boost = more power' point. The Duramax is starting to catch up with the Cummins, though. It's only been in the market 3 years, and there's already supposedly a couple trucks in the 800's. Still a couple hundred short of Scheid or Mitchell, but still impressive...

The Duramax makes more power than the comparable Cummins if running the same amount of boost, and the aluminum head seems to dissipate heat well. But I don't think that Duramaxes will EVER handle the boost that a Cummins can - the bottom end just isn't strong enough.

So the question is will the Duramax be able to come close enough to the Cummins (in terms of boost numbers) to run the same power? We'll see... there should be some big trucks in Muncie right now :).

If the dmaxs are hitting big numbers. Just give us some time with this hpcr. In the end its all about how much fuel can be delivered. Then it comes down to how much boost you can cram on top.

If Maddog or Joe d went to nitrous how many dmaxs do you think could keep up?

Yeah, I wish I had that kind of money. That is the truck I wanted when I set out to buy a truck, 4x4, black with the sport option. Now that it has a 24v p7100 it's all i've ever dreamed of. I don't care for all the horse power for a daily driver, but I spose I could detune it to around 500rwhp. ;)

And look what yall made me post over on that other site. :p

His 'new' old lady must have him on a short leash...

His wife is having a heck of a time with the baby, she has been in and out of the hospital and on bed rest most of this year try to keep from loosing it. Doug has spent most of the time home taking care of her and the two other kids and not working much.

Family comes first in my book!

Bingo Jim. I missed the only REAL diesel event all year that I care about going to partly because I had other priorities with my girlfriend. :)

My best goes to Doug.
