My truck has the same problem on both doors. What are people doing to fix the problem short of installing new doors. I am leaning toward sanding the rust spots and applying POR-15 then priming and painting. Any other ideasthat would be better?

On last Sunday, I got tired of looking at my door rust and took a wire brush on my grinder and ground as much of the rust from the bottom of the door, inside and out. I then sprayed it with 4 coats of this permatex product. It turns any rust to black and then it can be sanded, primed and painted. After completely all of that and also repainting the inside of my door sills, I am so glad to see no rust spots. It feels like I am no longer driving a rust bucket. It may be a cheap fix, but definetely better than buying new doors.

It sounds like POR-15 is like a product I use Rustmort. I use an epoxy primer after like. DP-40. That area under the molding holds water for days. I wonder if it would be a good idea to cut that molding back to keep water from standing on the bottom edge of the door??

What is the purpose of those little rubber things under the doors? It looked to me like they would retain water?

I took them off, and for a band aid fix- oiled inside the bottom of the doors and the seam underneath.

Am I just wasting my time??

On my 96, the only drain inside the door was towards the rear. The rubber plugs do nothing to help drainage but I suppose they block stuff from coming in. I removed the door panels, cleaned out the door bottoms on the inside, drilled two 1/4" holes as near to the pinch-seam as possible in the middle and front. Then I applied "Rust Bullet" to the inside of the door which I bought from Summit racing. Water now drains from the middle, front and rear portions of the door. Took an afternoon but well worth it.

There is drain holes in the botton of the door need to keep then open to let water out. I had my truck Z barted all over.
