Where was my truck built?

good freind just straight piped his '02 'stroke when cold it will spool up and hissssssssssss sounds just like an exhaust brake when it's used to warm up a cummins

started a girls '97 stroke at work to warm it up for her ... same hisss

both trucks are stock

the '02 is a six speed and it will actually slow/pull down the truck when it hiss'

any one know what the 'stroke does to warm up

You'd be right in saying that it's like an an exhaust brake. It's called the Exhaust Backpressure valve. It's a butterfly valve that's mounted onto the turbo that closes to help warm up the engine. A friend of mine has a 95 with a 5" pipe, and you can definitely hear that hiss when he starts it up.

my cousin's ford does it as well- talked to a diesel mechanic buddy, and he said that its a valve that recirculates some of the exhaust back into the motor to help warm it up. i dont know exactly where it is, prob in the turbo housing somewhere. hope this helps, chuck

They often call it a "warm up valve". It's basically an exhaust brake that helps to warm the truck up. I think TS performance even makes a deal to fool the ECM into turning it on for use as an exhaust brake, they are that much alike.

That would be an EGR valve.

It is bolted to the rear of the turbine housing.
