My roomate just installed a new injection pump on saturday. Everything went fine, it started right up and he let it warm up for about 10 minutes, then he went on a road test. Everything was great, he said it even felt like it had a little more power than the old pump (background: the old pump gave him a P0216 code. ). He let the truck sit all day sunday, then this morning he went to work. He said the truck started missing and coughing and sputtering, ran fine, then did it again. He has an Edge comp (I don't know if it was on this morning), and a FASS are the only mods. He got to work and stuck the code reader back up to it and it is throwing the P0370 code, which says is caused by an internal fuel injection pump failure. What gives guys?? Any opinions?? Fixes/explanations?? Any help you guys could give him would be much appeiciated.

just curious

After reading what the code is, fuel injection pump speed/position sensor signal lost, does it do that with the comp shut off???? Broken pump harness wire at comp connection?? Will be interesting to see what it is, might be a bad pump too?????

The key is definately installed in the right direction, and the connectors were all reinstalled correctly. The pump ran fine for around 20-30 miles then encountered this bucking condition, like it lost all power then came back on like a light bulb. This happened at approx. 2600 rpm. Edge Comp was on the first time it did it and off ever since. It bucks with it on or off. Thanks in advance.

Checked wiring harness again at the plug on the injection pump and at the ECM. Comp off, it bucks like a PBR bull at 2600+ rpm. What gives, anybody out there???

Tramp

tell him those stacks look sharp sitting in the driveway. mabey he should get that thing running befor he blows his nestegg on shiney stuff

The sensor is inside the pump. . sometime this is also call the angle of rotation sensor. . not sure which sensor is giving problems. . In the pic below its hanging off the top cover (towards the bottom. . ) its reading off a timing wheel on the shaft. . (check out the other pics in my readers rigs, under VP44)

He called the place were he got the pump and in turn that guy called bosch. They said to make sure that the bolts holding the pump to the cover were tightened first then put the bolts in the lower bracket. Here's the problem, when he put the new pump on he had to leave the four top bolts loose just to get the bottom bolts in the bracket. He thinks the lower backet bolts is causing the pump to be misaligned. We are going to check this tonight and I will report back in the morning.

Update: My roomate removed the bolts holding the lower bracket on and took the truck for a test drive, problem solved. He is going to enlarge the holes on the bracket to reinstall the bolts without tweaking the pump out of shape.

Update (change 1) Above fix did not solve his problem. He called the pump shop and they have a new one on the way to him, no cost. Bosch said they were very sorry for this.
