I have put off posting this because it is not a serious problem, but my
curiosity is killing me. Around 1800 rpm in any gear, if I hold a steady
throttle, I get this oscillating, surging sound from the engine. It makes
no difference cruise or not, load or no load. If you speed up or slow down
slightly, it goes away. It seems to be about one surge per second, if that
makes any sense. You don't feel it or see it in the tach, but sure can
hear it. Reminds me of driving a boat when I was a kid with my Dad -
He would always tell me to move the throttle to get out of a rpm the
motor didn't sound happy at. 25 years later, stuff like that bothers me too!
Have I just found the resonance of some of the timing components or
valvetrain? It sounds to me like the ECM can't make up its mind and is
jerking timing or fuel or something in and out - hunting.
Just wondered if anybody else has this and can explain it to me.
(It has done this since new) Thanks, Jeff
