had that trouble on my '01 and there was a plug on the back passenger side of the axle that had come undone some how. might be something to check

There is a plug on top of the transfer case with 2 wires coming into it. It is triggered by a small ball similiar to the backup light switch on the manual trannys. I purchased a new one from the dealer and is was about $35 if I remember right. The other possibility is the L. E. D. light in the dash. I used the OD off light from the instrument cluster on my truck since it is a 6sp manual and soldered it into place. I would recommend checking the swith in the transfer case first, maybe replace it anyhow even if it checks OK. I put off replacing the backup light switch for away by just cleaning it once in a while. Worth replacing it though. I the dash test by holding the trip odometer button down and turning the key on does not trigger the 4wd light. Good Luck!

Thanks guys, I will defiantly check into the switch. From what I am under standing, there is NO CAD so the only circuitry is a LED, a switch and some wires. On the link I posted, one guy says "The 02 doesn't have the CAD. Its just not getting the 4X4 light? If so then the problem may be the jumper installed under the RF frame rail. Mike". Was wondering if anyone had more data on this jumper wire. What color, where its at...

Thanks again!!

Dave

PS,AWeiman thanks but I think your 01 has a Center Axle Disconnect which almost all 94-01 have. my 02 does not have that system. That plug on passenger side of axle is for the light switch at the CAD.

ya sorry your right. gotta learn to read slower. good luck.

Don't remember exactly where the switch is, but it is the only wire thing on the transfer case. I think the wires were black and white. Was easy to get to and simple to change so if it looks complicated than you are looking at something else. Simple 2 wire plug if I recall correctly.
