02 Tahoe no power steering ??

My dad has our Tahoe,it is a few hundred miles away in his driveway. He backed up, put the Tahoe in drive and no power steering. He says everything else works, belt is not broken,nor is there any fluid leaking and the level in the power steering is fine. Any ideas?? Could something in the pump came apart?

The brakes are fine. I just had AAA tow the thing 50 miles to a chevy dealership. The Tahoe is still 150 miles from our house. The guy from AAA had never seen anything like it. I just got home, I will call the dealership in the A. M. to see what is up. I still have 6000 miles left on the extend GM protection plan.
