Does anybody know if the cup holder that comes with the 2002 trucks and fits around the gearshift can be retrofitted to a 1996? I saw one on a 6 speed 4 wheel drive. I figure that would solve the "who decided to put the cup holder THERE?" problem I have with mine.

Sorry

But that's a negative. :(

Tried to put one in a 96 last year and the shape of the 4x4 shift lever will not let it work.

Maybe if you changed the lever to a newer style it might, we didn't get that far with it.

Some member did it a while back. But he said he did use an entire shift lever and console assembly from a 98+up truck.

I simply ordered a Cup Smoothie from Geno's and painted it with Dodge interior paint.

Yup. That's exactly my plan. My smoothie is on backorder, and the paint's ready.

Is the dealer the best place to get paint? If so, what do you ask for... Agate interior trim paint (my case)? Just curious. I've had the smoothie for a while and black just doesn't cut it! Thanks!

I got mine at the dealer. Much less hassle, and it came in an aerosol. Around $15 if my memory is right.

Any prep required on the unit to be painted? How does the paint hold up? Any issues with it getting scratched off? Thanks!

I painted a guage pod. Cleaned it first with denatured alcohol and let dry fully. No p[roblems painting, but I can't say anything about longevity or scratch resistance yet.

Since the cup smoothie is a big unit that will get banged into by coffee cups and junk (read: I had to make it wife proof), I sanded the entire smoothie with fine 400grit emery cloth so the paint could adhere better, then washed it and let completely dry. Turned out great.
