My friends 02 has been dying going down road. Cylcle key. Comes back. So we put in an inline fuel pump(Carter) Saturday. Still the same. What is the deal? Has code PPCU, P1693

Come On! Where is the Love?... ... ... ... ... . Anybody?

Does his truck have a Check Engine (MIL) Light? If not then it may some thing minor. It may be a Cam or Crank Sensor, or a APS (These normaly set a code such as P0122 (That's a PCM code).

From TMTT's List at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96634

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC

Detected in ECM

A Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.

The problem with this code is that it's saying that their's some thing wrong in the ECU but they ain't talking. Do you know any one who has a Smarty? If not then try a code scanner

Did you try a Fuel Pressure gage for the old lift pump? If he ran the VP44 under 6psi for a period of time, then probley damaged his VP44 :{ After shelling out the Ca$h for a new rebuilt VP, get him to buy a Fuel Pressure Gage, a BD or Geno's FP warning light. :)

No gauge on truck. So we nev er checked it before we changed out the lift pump. We will change the fuel. He said he tried that awhile ago but didnt make a differance. Thanks for help. I have been telling him now for 5 months to get this fixed . I hope it is not vp44.

Cycle the key three times to get the codes. Let it read until it returns to the odometer. I bet it shows a 0216--- injection pump timing.

Time for a VP-44.

Or , stop at a autozone or dealer to get the codes.
