RAndrae,

Let us know if you find the weld they repaired. I will take a look under the truck tonight.

My truck has, what seems to be, the same irritating squeak.

I looked for a TSB on a pinched weld and didn't find anything. The only TSB that even was remotely close was one that talked about the a-piller rubbing against the dash.

Thanks,

Shawn

I have the dreaded metal-on-metal/plastic-on-metal rattle coming from the emergency brake pedal area. I padded the area behind the drivers front kick panel and the area around the pedal assembly. I have secured all loose wiring. I have greased the steering shaft and the transmission linkage. Still have the rattle.

Did anybody find exactly where the pinch weld is that the Dealer fixed on RAndre's Truck? I have been trying to fix this rattle for 2 months and it is driving me crazy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have that noise coming from my dash too. I push on the light switch slightly and it goes away. I figure I'll have to tear into it sooner or later.

found it

Well I have had the truck at the dealer 2 times. the first was lenghty and they spend hours on it pick it up and the noise was still there. drove it right back and the next guy "fixed it in 20 minutes. well the squeek returned and just this month got as loud as it was. So I decided to do what I should have done in the first place, fix it my self. If you open the hood and look between the fender and body just behind the hood hinge/ spring you will see a pinch weld that runs straigh down. the mechanic just git a long punch and hit in the top couple of inches, cause thats all you can reach. well I got a nail pry bar with a 90 and went through the hinge and hit it down low. I also went from inside the cab behind the drivers kick panel and punched it in a few spots. I just changed the shape in a few spots. the noise is gone.

Oo. Hey way to go RAndrae I had a 1997 DODGE truck that had water leaks in the same spot you are talking bout. It was right where the hood hinge was mounted and you could see where it was a pinch weld just below where the hinge was mounted and when it was made how they smear that goop on well it did not do what it was supposed to do. I had to take it the the dealer and they tore out the seats and had to replace the floor mats and padding because things were so wet. Then they found the water leaked on booth sides and fixed them and it was good to go.

Well I'm glade you found a better way to fix it you self, now you know its done right.

Finally, the rattle is goneOo.

Thanks RAndrae, the pinchweld was the culprit. My wife is happy now that I'm not going to make her get in the floorboard and try to locate it while I drive. She was worried what people would think if someone saw us.

OK guys, I now have punch marks all over under the hood and the squeak is still there.

I'm sorry to say, but I don't know what a pinch weld looks like.

Is it possible for one of you guys to post a picture of the location you are speaking of???

If I don't get rid of this squeak soon, I'm going to go deaf. (I just turn up the radio to drown out the squeak)

pinch weld

I chased this squeek for a long time see my first post. A pinch weld is like a duck beak welded together like the one that runs under the doors on the cab. half inch of metal that is then spot welded. The one that was sqeeking is where several pieces of metal all come together at the lower portion of the cab and then are all spot welded together. the cab flexes and sqeekes.

If you open the hood and then look down that cavity between the fender and cab where the hood spring is. you will see a 14 16 inch pinch weld like the one on the cab under the doors running perpindicular to the ground. The punch idea is to re pinch or kink the metal so it wont move. With a long punch you can only hit the first 3-5 inches. You need to get a bend bar, open the door and go in from the outside (right next to the 2500/ cum turb diesel plaq and hit that weld. Also I took the kike panel off and punched way up in there on the other side of that weld. I spent 20 minutes. Oh yeah wrap that bar when you on the outside.

RAndrae,

You are the man!!!!!!!

My truck is finally squeak free. I even drove into work this morning with the windows up and the radio off. It was great!!!!!

It's almost like driving a new truck.

Thanks for all the help
