Well about 2000 miles ago i had this code show up and the dealer installed the new in tank pump under warrenty. After that i got a fuel pressure gauge and at idle i see about 8-10 psi and while cruising i see 5-6 psi. From what I have seen on here that seems low. Lately I have heard a stange surging sound from the motor under acceleration and today i checked the codes and the 0216 code showed up again. should i be worried about the injection pump going out? Thanks.

when my pump was going it the engine sounded like it was surging. sounds like a possible pump. hopefully thats not the case.

I would rather it go now then after my warrenty is ends, i just wanted to be sure before i goto the dealer. Thanks for the quick response.

Almost every time the dreaded 216 code shows up the VP44 is going to die. Sorry.

I agree. The problem is, it could last a year or five minutes. Hopefully it will last you awhile.

I take it the dealer did not replace the vp 44 the first time you took it in for the 216 code? hopefully they will fix the rig this time.

Fix It Dodge!

That POS in tank fuel pump that Dodge came up with is a joke. Take yor truck back to the dealer and tell them your injector pump is toast and that fix with the lift pump they did didn't fix the problem. If they don't replace it and your injection pump lasts more than a month make sure you take measures to make sure it goes out before warranty expires and after they replace the injection pump get a regular lift pump and big-line kit from Vulcan and scrap that in-tank set-up. That's a band-aid fix to a severed artery. After my 2nd lift pump and injection pump fried with it, I relocated the lift pump with bigger lines and fittings and I have 15-16# at idle and cruise and 9-11# at wot with the comp box on 5x5 with injection pump wire tapped. Goes like a fox on fire and I hope the transmission lasts till I can afford to fix that thing with a DTT set-up.

Thanks for all of the info, no they didn't replace the injection pump the first time and ever since I got the FP gauge i have been waiting for the pump to go south. If I get a new injection pump I am going to get a RASP or FASS system in the spring. anybody else have these symptoms before there pump quit. Thanks for all of the help.

well today I hooked up a scan tool and to my suprise no codes, This is about only 12 hours after i did the 3 turns on the ignition and got the 0216 code. what is going on here? there were no codes in the history either, this is driving me nuts. Any ideas? Thanks

Did you drive the truck much in the 12 hours? Codes will get eliminated after several start and driving sequences, I don't know the number. I'd imagine after just 12 hrs that it would still be there though. I thought it was a significant number in the series, like a couple dozen.

I just recently replaced my VP44, it was surging for a long time (several months), then I experienced VERY low power and crappy idling on cold starts. It got to where I would have to drive 4-5 miles before it would settle down and then magically come back to normal. I got fed up and replaced it, with a HRVP44. If you're not experiencing bad performance I'd stick it out a while. At least with my experience, you should be ok but eventually it will fail (well they ALL will, but when no one knows).

I always had good pressure, I changed my lift pump out at the first sign of failure (surging pressures from 5-15 psi). Some pumps last long, some don't My brothers went over 200k with a comp tapped in for 180k of it. I made it 63k, with a comp tapped in for 30k.

Good luck
