I believe 0216 is a code for transfer pump failure. My truck is at the dealer right now for that code. They replaced the transfer pump and that did not fix it. Now they are wait for dodge to approve the replacement of the lift pump.

The dreaded 216 code. :{ That is usually a sign that your injection pump(VP44) is headed south for the winter. Be prepared to pay if it is not under warranty. www.cumminsstuff.com has the pumps for $750 plus core of $250. They are the cheapest place aroud currently.

Hopefully the code came about as an electrical gremlin and won't come back after you clear it.

0216 =

Injection Pump Timing Failure.

RGRAT1618..... Lift pump and transfer pump are the same thing. Perhaps you mean they are waiting approval to replace your injection pump?

sorry, yes I mean Injection Pump. Lat time I talked to the dealer they were running thru a checklist with dodge. Then the people at the factory will look at the results and will approve a new pump to be put on. Has anyone had any problems after they had there injection pump replaced. Do the new ones go bad as soon as the old ones did.

I just started having the 0216 code show up. My truck will also sometimes be doing about 50, and when lightly accelerating, you can push the pedel to the floor, and nothing will happen. Then seconds later, it will get up and take off. Is this a sign of pump failure. I have a steady 20 psi. Also, when in neutral now, it will miss at about 1800 to 2100 rpm. (not timing right?) And will also have blue smoke, and run rough. Are all these signs of vp44 death? Any help is appreciated.

I have too have the dreaded 0216 syndrome. I have cleared it at least 30 time in the last month. Sometimes the light will stay out for couple of days, other times it will come on 3 times a day. Last week I started the engine up at 2:30 am and drove until 4:00 pm shut the truck off 5 for less that 20 minutes each time. 724 Miles with 7000 lb trailer No light. Next day run to the store . 5 mile and the light comes on. 75,000 miles

dlange....

Your symptoms are what mine were like. Another one was no power off of a start, which was scary with oncoming traffic bearing down. My new pump has ~5K on it and works great. I spent a lot of time and money over three months in trouble-shooting denial. Look back at my posts from mid April through July. IMO, the 0216 code means new pump in your future.

I have the exact symptoms. I know what you are saying about the no power start. Jumping into traffic, putting your foot on the floor, and having maybe 10 mph and then a sloooooooow acceleration. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet. :(

Yeah, I forgot about that. I NEVER got a check engine light, either. By the time I was through I had tripped the 0216 code over 100 times:eek: I didn't have to have an "episode" to trip the code, either. I would clear it... drive another 10 miles with no symptoms, check for codes, and it was back.

Seems like the check engine light is programmed to go on mostly for emmisions related problems. So I guess a 216 code isn't.

I'm sick of the suspense...

Well it seems I have between 10k and 60k before I see my Inj pump problems.

How many of you have had a comp or something like it hooked up, including pump wire?

mine was a stock truck, no mods. I was going to get it back from the dealer today with a new injection pump, But the Mech broke the "timing screw" as they called it when he was installing the pump. So maybe I might get to see my truck again before the weekend.
