A little history. 2015 2500 with 101,000 miles. I’ve had it a year and half and put 9000 miles on it. I always drive with the exhaust brake on weather towing or not. My thought is that way it keeps everything moving even if I’m not on it hard. Anyway it has seemed a little down on bottom end torque lately and a couple weeks ago when I stopped a stop sign the exhaust brake was still on like it would be in the winter at cold temps. Left the sign and all seemed normal. Yesterday it did it again but this time the brake stayed on and the truck wouldn’t go past 10 mph. No codes. Pulled over shut it off and restarted. MIL light came on but everything was normal. When I got home from work I found P00AF stored. From reading here it seems that means my actuator is headed south. But everyone else seems to have associated codes and I don’t. Based on everyone else’s experience am I looking at just an actuator or the turbo. Unfortunately now is not the best time financially for either. I am a diesel tech but work with Deere Cat and other industrial engines Thank you all and sorry for the lengthy post

How many hours on the clock? (drive + idle) If you're any where around 4K, It's time for an actuator! I put the City Diesel on mine. I had that code along with low boost and low EB Hp. With yours being a 2500, will be easier than the 3500's! The shock tower is in the way on the 3500's. Might be a good time to replace hoses, since you need to drain the coolant. They're on B/O thru Genos till end of the month. That's about how long I waited to get mine. Same $ from Geno's or City. Get it from Geno's to support TDR! I did a write up; https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/city-diesel-turbo-actuator.273394/.

Engine hours are 2563 and 263 idle time. I plan to get it from Geno’s along with the EGR service kit while the coolant is drained. I just wish I knew how soon I needed to plan this. I may need to drive it to North Carolina at the end of this month. 11 hours from my house. Plus I’m in the middle of a Jeep Compass major project for a vehicle for a daughter. And winter is coming. No heat in the garage. Mostly curious if anyone has had a similar problem and when it became a major need to repair now issue.

A couple of years ago, FCA sent a letter to 2015 truck owners extending the warranty for the actuators to fifteen years or something like that. Google it or search this site for more info.

You're in the ball park on hours. They start to fail around that 4K hour mark, could be before or after. I liked the fact that the City Diesel unit was built with 20K hour components, not 4k!

You'll be able to do the trip, just might not be as nice with things going weird! It could leave you on the side of the road, or not. I limped mine along for a couple of months before replacing mine.

You're lucky! I did mine in gravel drive, right in the middle of a cold snap!

Was going off of the letter posted, and not knowing your vin.

If you can get it covered, that's great!! :) Find a dealer that you're comfortable with doing the work, and schedule an appointment. They'll want to confirm it's the actuator, and then probably order part if not in stock. Make sure that you have printed proof that you're covered, or they'll try to make you pay for the repair! Ran into that with the 67A recall. Had 67A done in July, 3 weeks later went into limp mode with SCR code (which is covered under 67A ex-warranty), and dealer was giving me customer pay! I know dealers are busy and short staffed, but when you put in vin, it'll tell you there's warranty or not.

Just remember that the factory unit is a 4K hour electrical component. But at least this way, you can start saving for the next time if you plan on keeping the truck. Hope they're not way backed up on time frame, and hope part isn't affected with east coast port strike!
