I'm getting 18-20 city/highway and averaging 22 highway empty.

Yeah, my friend has a TST box and he's getting 21+ or so on a 05, I figure I can get better after a few mods. I'll probably step up to 285's and a TST then see where the dice fall, I can't complain my 01 gasser was getting 11 empty or full with the 360.

I have an 04. 5 quad cab 325/600 with A Smarty/ TS Performance stack, 5 inch turbo back exhaust, banks high rise intake and cold air intake w/super scoop, air dog 100gph fuel preporator. It has consistently given me 20. 5 mpg(paper and pencil). I also have an 03 std cab 305/555 with a Bully Dog Power Pup / TS Performance stack, 4 inch turbo back, banks high rise intake and AFE cold air intake, BD Performance lift pump. It gives me 21 mpg. The 03 has Nitto Grapplers 295x70x17 (All terrain tires) and the 04. 5 has 285x60x18 Falken Ziex4 (street performance tires). I put approximately 35000-40000 miles per yr between both trucks. Mileage difference is not noticeable. I also have a 2003 Sterling Acterra 24' van straight truck. MBE900 engine (Mercedes Benz) 6. 1L it gets 10 mpg but the vehicle weighs 15,900 empty.

I know of one difference between the 03 vs. 03. 5, the new design automatic trans 48RE.

That is correct. The early '03 HO engine was only available with the NV5600 transmission. In Jan. '03, the HO was available with the 48RE. My truck with the mods I've done (not all listed- I should fix that) delivers exceptional mileage. It goes to show how much this country could reduce oil imports if we were really serious about it.

I think thats probably the only difference, at least from what i have been reading. It is more of a addition than a change. I just had never seen anyone call the late 03's a 03. 5 before. Probably similar to how some call the late 05 an 05. 5, when the manual trans changed and the intercooler changed.
