Can I take the arm from an 02 and the mirror and guts from an 03-04, put em together and have fold out towing mirrors w/ heat and electric? I don't much care for the looks of the aftermarket options, I saw a 2500 with some aftermarket pullout mirrors today, they were huge, looked like Dumbo driving down the road.

Do a search on Towing mirrors and you will get all the answers and then some. Many have done the conversion and alot of helpfull tips. My truck came with the westcoast style mirrors and this was one of the first upgrades I made. Also one of the best. Get ready for alot of reading. You will find some very detailed directions are avail.

I just did this a couple of weeks ago. The first one takes a lot of patience. The second one is a piece of cake (because then you know how to do it). These threads helped me when I did mine.

A couple of things I'd add: I used mason's string to hold the spring after compressing it for reassembly. Then I cut the string with a sharp knife and removed it to release the spring. It worked very well. I also ground out the channel on the '03 part to preserve the stop feature for folding the mirror in - that tip is on one of the threads. I had to shave down the cylinder a little to get it to fit properly. If you do this conversion, you'll know what that means. A Dremel tool with cutting bits is a must, in my opinion. I also blew the I. O. D. fuse when I wired it - 3 times. Then I found a tiny knick in my wire that was grounding it out. That fuse is obscure and a forum search helped me find it. I lost the radio, dome lights, and the underhood light with that fuse. Try finding that combination of a fuse listed in the owners or service manuals. It's like some kind of secret or something. My wires were also different colors than others who posted on these threads. But a PM from my TDR buddy JHansen helped me get that figured out easier. Plus - my trial an error with the wires was probably done most of the time with the fuse blown and not knowing the wires were dead. LOL

The whole job took me maybe 12 hours total over a few days (I'm slow) - but about 4/5 of the time was the first mirror. The second went really fast. I bet I could do the whole job in less than 2 hours now.

Good Luck!!:)
