'03 - '07 2500, 3500 wheel lug nuts

Is there a difference in the lug nuts used on the steel wheel vs the aluminum wheel?

The wheels on the dual rear wheel trucks center off the hub... . so the lug nuts are not tapered and do have a flat washer pressed into the nut.....

The wheels on the single rear wheel trucks have a taper where the lug nut seats on the wheel and the lug nut is tapered... . it centers both off the hub and the lug nuts.....

I assume that a taper on Aluminum wheels would weaken them..... so I'm guessing they would center on the hub... . and the lug nuts would have a washer on them like most larger trucks... .

The factory lug nuts on my 01' w/factory aluminum wheels are tapered. They look identical to my son's 06' w/steel wheels. They seem to be larger and the taper is more blunt than most aftermarket tapered nuts/wheel combos. Some of the aftermarkets seem to be smaller with a sharp taper and over time actually force the nut deeper and deeper into the soft aluminum wheel. The factory type nut/wheel combo seems to cause no damage, I like them

I just bought the wheels off a '06. The wheels on my '03 were steel and center on the hub. I installed the '06 aluminum wheels on my '03 and they center on the hub also. The taper on both the steel and aluminum appears the be the same except the taper on the aluminum wheel is shorter. There was no sign of washers installed originally. My main concern is whether the steel lug nut is compatible with the aluminum. I torqued the nuts to 120 foot pounds and took one nut off and did not see any sign of galling on the nut or wheel, I hope that means that every thing is ok. Any other comments are welcome.
