Sorry, I know the sticky says truck needs to be inop to post in here, but this is kinda a special situation. . Please forgive me.

I live in Virginia, my dad lives in Dallas. He's 74, and is on the road this morning. He's somewhere in Arkansas, and called me at 630am freaking out (something he normally doesn't do. )

He has a 2003 1500 QCSB 2wd gas truck, 4. 7L auto. He said at 70mph, the TC keeps cycling about every 15 minutes. at 60, it does it about every few minutes. No CELs pop up. Truck's got about 60-70k on it, he had a trans flush done at 50. NEver has had a lick of problems with the truck.

I only post here now, because he's out in the middle of nowhere, and concerned whether he should continue to Dallas (about 3-4hrs away) or what. He and my mom are in it, and I'd hate for them to get stuck somewhere.

I did a quick search, but didn't find any real reasoning for the issue.

Should he unlock the TC and continue home out of OD? Or what are your thoughts?

Thank you for your time and patience. If he were younger, and I were closer to him, I'd not posted this here, but I've come to learn that you are a bunch of great people, and you all were my first thought to turn to.

THanks,

Rick

He's home by now if he kept driving. I would have him check the fluid level and if it is still pink and not smoking keep going. Keeping the torque converter unlocked and not using OD should get him home.

yeah, I told him to stop and check the fluid, which he did. It was still nice and clean, with no odor.

I then instructed him to drive home, no CC, and see if it did it while regulating the speed by foot. If it continued, then turn off the OD and drive home at a slower speed, and call me when he gets home.

I haven't heard from him yet.

It's a bummer. Not too long ago they worried about you getting home, now you worry about them. Hope everything is OK.

I spoke with him last night. They made it home okay. Ironically, it was acting up all morning. After I last talked to him, and gave him some instruction, it never did it again, all the way home.

This is also after he'd cycled the ignition, so I've got no idea what it coulda been. I was suspecting the TPS. I think he's gonna change it out anyway, as it's only like 25$. He's making a trip up here (1450mi) next month, and doesn't want to have any issues on that trip.
