03 3500 towing 1st gen 10MPG??????

hello just got back from a 500ml round trip to buy another 1st gen, i borowed my bosses 03 dually reg cab 10'stake body with 6spd and a freinds 2500lb trailer and i only averaged 10mpgs. he had problems with water in fuel last winter and i think it might have a fuel problem again since i thought i would get around 16 empty and12 loaded. it also wouldn't reav over 2500. still towed alot better than a stock 1st gen, im not complaineing just looking for advice thanks.

It definetly has problems if it only revs to 2500 RPM. 10 MPG towing might be a little low but I wouldn't expect more than about 11-12 maybe 13 tops.

Without a truck on the trailer, he should get somewhere in the mid teens...

Sounds like the truck has issues... should redline at 3200??

I can get between 11 and 13 towing 10k at 65+ with my 03 with the mods listed in my sig

On a recent trip from PA to UT and back (5500 miles), I got 16mpg going out and back, and low to mid teens in the mountains grossing somewhere around 10-11k I figured.



I averaged 14. 5 for the trip... and that's a 04. 5 (third injection event) pushing a slide-in camper through the air while towing a small trailer.



The main thing is the fact his truck is not revving, almost like the filter is plugged???
