You just half to extend the hose back like fellows did on the 98-02. I have mine exiting around my transfer case and still get a smell but nothing like it was before. I think I will extend it back some more.

I made a homemade foam filter element and that worked great; but I took it off since I'm nervous about it getting condensation and freezing/clogging. Now I just have the hose moved back to slightly behind the firewall; and almost no odor in the truck. More odor when I step out of the truck since it's exiting not far from the door; but that's way better then smelling it while sitting at stop lights. I'm going to extend the hose and move it away from the door to see if that solves it completely.

I extended the blowby tube on the ’03 about one foot straight down to get the exit below the bottom of the engine oil pan using one hose clamp and piece of 3/4 I. D. hydraulic return hose. I haven’t noticed the blowby odor since doing that a month ago. Extended the blowby tube by about the same length on the ’01 and it solved the problem on that one. Seems like the factory would notice that odor when they drive a new truck too?

Not to get off topic but when will we be seeing an 03 fueling box from TST? No pressure or anything, just curious. Thanks.

krabman,

Just now saw your post. I’ve been driving my ’03 Ram HO with a prototype PowerMax3 CR (common rail) box for about a month; power/torque is awesome, much better than Vp44 with box only. This is a totally new add-on computer for the common rail. I wish box could be ready for sale by Christmas ’02 but there are still many issues to work through. We need to re-establish cylinder pressure and EGT limits with stock and aftermarket turbos, cold weather drivability, power vs. lift pump pressure, etc, etc. We will be lucky to have a product to ship by end of first quarter ’03.

Thanks for the reply Mark. If its not to early to comment may I ask if you will have EGT and boost readout as before? I dont like the pillar gauge mount and getting these on the control unit is a real bonus in my view.

krabman,

A new digital remote will be offered with 03 Ram PowerMax CR which shows egt, boost, and power level (10 levels) with power and exhaust temp limits adjustable on the fly. The new remote will be similar to what we offer for VP44 ISB except it will be about 1/3 smaller to make mounting locations easier to find.

hmm... perhaps that can be added to my 2003 christmas wish list:D

That's great news TST! I ran your original PowerMax in my 98. 5; I think mine was the 5th or 6th sold. I look forward to your new product! It's good to see some quality competitive engineering from our various power vendors -- and to hear about some really awesome stuff coming out for the new trucks. Best is better then first when it comes to engineering.

G'day guy's I'am new to this forum, and to owning a diesel. I have noticed the diesel smell in the cab while stopped and just attributed it to the wrong wind direction.

So if you could help me out here a little. Where exactly is this hose that I have to extend to eliminate the ordor? My truck is a 03, reg cab, 4x4, HO. I'd appreciate any help, as I've had numerous complaint's from th Chief financial officer that the new truck smells like an old bus. So anything we can do to keep the Chief happy is usually time well spent. Pete

If my memory serves me correctly the blow-by tube comes down on the drivers side of the engine block. The tube is painted black so it blends in to the surroundings. However, if you look at about the mid point on the side of the valve cover it comes out and heads down from there. Also I think if you follow the dipstick tube you will see where it clamps to the blow-by tube for support.

Just to let you know I have not had my morning coffee yet so the above may be totally wrong.

I looked under the hood while getting my snowplow wires out and my above post is wrong. The blowby tube exits

toward the drivers side REAR not middle of the rocker cover and the dipstick tube is clamped to it for a referance point.

Thanks for the info. I'am off the weekend so I'll tackle this little project then. It will be alota fun crawling around under the beast in a foot of snow and wet slush. Pete
