I currently have 15,000 miles on my 03 3500 SRW HO. I am experiencing brake shudder exactly as identified in TSB 05-008-03. When applying at around 50 mph the truck shakes. I have made an appointment to take it in next week, however, the service writer has told me the brakes are only covered under warranty for 12,000 miles. I haven't done any towing and payload has never been above 1,000 lbs.

Has anyone else had their truck serviced for this? I am concerned because the TSB specifies replacement calipers and on wheel turning of the rotors. If DC does not cover this under warranty I believe I will get hit with a $$$$ bill. This is obviously something they have found to be a problem with workmanship/materials. Just wondering how widespread the problem is and if I might still have a chance of DC covering this.

Thanks,

Doug

It doesn't't differentiate between the 1500 and HD. There are other TSBs in there that specify the 2003 DR and involve problems with HD Cummins vehicles.

Doug, sam peterson may have some info and advice 360 357 4958. may be worth a call. Sam really know these trucks.

I took it in to the dealer and they took care of it. They said the TSB part for the calipers was only for the 1500 series trucks. They did turn the front rotors and there was still shudder, so they did the rears. Shudder is gone for now. Because the truck was beyond the 12,000 miles for warranty on the brakes, they did it for free as a one time good deal. Although I am appreciative of them doing this, I am still concerned about this possibly happening again in the not too distant future. Also, what is the real cause of the problem? Is it due to faulty wheels, and thus the part in the TSB of having them mount the wheel, turn it with a guage on it and if too much, rotate one lug until better? They treated the symptom, but have they truly cured the problem?

Hi all, I just got my truck back for this. mine was doing the shudder at lower speeds, so it may be a different problem. But they ended up putting in a rear u joint. (i know it didn't make sense to me for a front end shudder) It rides better and no more shudder.

I idea on how they figured out it was the rear u joint?
