Having problems with an 03 Dodge as far as starting problems. Sometimes it will fire right up, but most the time it takes a long time to get it started sometimes 20 mins. The truck already has the factory replacement from mopar for the fuel pump. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

20 min. ?, Check for codes by turning your key on/off 3 times, without starting, on the 3rd time leave on, any codes will show up in the odo window. Unplug your FCA and try to start it next time it does this. It is the small round solonoid on the backside of your CP3 injection pump, just squeeze the release on the wire harness to it and unplug, now try to start. If it starts it will rattle like crazy, do not drive with it unplugged.

If it is the culprit, you can get a new one at cummins for $100. 00 #4932457, Dodge #5183245AA($300. 00).

If unplugging the FCA had no affect, unplug your injector harness and re-attatch, making sure all connections are tight. You may also want to check the connections to the crankshaft position sensor & camshaft position sensor.

If none of this works, take a clean rag and spray some starting fluid on it and wrap around, or place over your intake air filter, if it starts right up, or fires right off, you know you have a fuel delivery problem.

Hope I am not too confusing, been up all night working, kinda sleepy.

It could also be injectors or crossover tubes. Do a search here as this has been covered quite a bit. Mine was injectors and tubes. It was a pricey fix but the engine never worked so good since new.

I just put 6 new injectors in my 03. I was having a problem with it not starting unles I used starting fluid. As soon as I gave it a spray it fired right up and ran pretty well. After the new injector install it runs really well and starts as soon as I turn the key.

Pretty much the same story (hard start, ether helped), but in my case it was the rail relief valve (COV, the thing that goes up vertically from about mid-rail and routes flow back to the filter canister through a tube).

If you need one - check prices on the whole rail. When I purchased mine, the rail with COV and switch was $320 - while the COV alone was over $475.

Injectors in mine too.

1st trip to the dealer - Lift pump in tank conversion.

not fixed

2nd trip to dealer - Replaced 1 injector (stupid STAR program)

fixed for a week

3rd trip to dealer - Replaced the other 5.

fixed for now.

had same problem twice... . replaced all injectors. had to pull start it a few times and sometimes it would just stall waiting at a stop light and then mess around for 20 mins before it would start again.
