install a remanned cummins head and replace only one piston if needed, about 1500. 00 if you do it yourself

too bad... really, I bet you had the Smarty/EZ set , above 1300f, known fact that 03/04's have valve seat weakness.

You members with 03/04's, Brown's Diesel, warned you long ago, you cannot exceed 1400f max, more than... . few sec.

I hope you do not have piston damage.

Are you talking about the pre 325/600 engines? Thanks.

yes...

meanwhile, Curtis (gitchesum) took his truck over 1800* too many times to count... I think he finally dropped a valve seat at 150k ish?

later trucks drop seats too

yes. 305/555 motors have a "less than" optimal, valve seat product.

This was not discovered, till sometime later. Keep the egt's in check, no problem.

my 04 had twins... dialed in for optimal performance, I rarely saw over 1350... but, while dialing in optimal performance, I saw 1500+ a number of times.

obviously the lower the better :D

If Roadking has a piston problem and in turn has a scored hole, can the block be sleeved to save it? Has anyone sleeved a B?

I wonder how many seats have dropped in engines that haven't been turned up?

Was the head changed for the 04. 5/ 600 engine?

my 03 has a sleeved #5 hole, but that wasnt from a dropped seat, and yes my 03 dropped a seat at 52000 miles, seen over 1800 deg every day since it had 19000 miles on it:cool:

A technician from one of the Dodge dealers in Las Vegas prefers to sleeve them under warranty. He has done quite a few when only one piston and cylinder were damaged. MOPAR stocks the sleeves.

And before everyone starts jumping up and down about how that isn't a proper repair, the reman Cummins engine most likely has a sleeve(s) installed.

yes...

Actually, it was over 1999 degrees for several seconds during testing. All captured with the data logger.

Dropped an exhaust valve seat. The piston was in excellent shape with absolutely no signs of damage.

wow i sure hope there no damage to mine they will have the head off in the morning 3k to fix if no damage piston/cylnder

if the crown of the piston is nicked up, you can just dress it up w/ a file/etc. to smooth it down. not optimal, but FAR cheaper than having a new one installed

Sorry for your trouble. In 2007 the same thing happened to my 04. Seat fell out on #5 and bent two valves and got the piston. Thankfully it didn't get the cylinder wall. Seat and valves were about $20 aftermarket with the Cummins only piston and rings about $140. The dumb Cummins only gasket kit with TWO head gaskets was too high. By the time I bought the head gaskets, oil pan gasket, and oil, filter etc and had the injectors tested I had about $500 in the project. I was glad the busted seat didn't get the injector. I saved a little time by cutting the cross member out from under the pan so the trans did not need to be removed or engine jacked up to get the pan off. I was suprised how little wear the cylinders showed after 120K. I havent had any trouble since but can't say I was real comfortable with how easy the new seat drove in. I used high temp loctite just to make me feel better, I doubt it will do much good. Made flanges to bolt the cross member back in to make it easy for the next time around. Over all pretty easy fix but parts were way too expensive for no more than was done. But engine still runs great so I shouldn't complain too much.
