I filled up with fuel tonight, made a couple of stops for groceries and suddenly my truck would not accelerate. It idles fine but as soon as you accelerate it wont gain any RPM's. If I hold the pedal to the floor it will rev to about 1200 rpm and start to stutter not gaining any more RPM sounding like it had a rev limiter. No check engine light on, no codes. Since it happened right after fuel up do you think I got bad fuel? Its a 2003 158,000 miles, injectors replaced at 145,00 miles, new fuel filter 3,000 miles ago. I will replace the fuel filter in the morning and see what happens, any other ideas? I disconected the banks power adder but it did not change the problem.

Before you change the fuel filter be sure and drain the fuel out of the fuel filter housing into a clean clear plastic or glass jar. Leave it sit for a half hour and then check for water settling out of it.

Godspeed,
Trent

No, BD fuel pump on frame rail. Guage in the truck shows 10 lbs when running at idle. I will drain the fuel into a clear container and see what settles on the bottom. Thanks for the replies, keep em comming.

OK , could not wait till morning. I drained the filter and and replced the filter element. Old filter was black with white specks on it. Did not see any junk in the container but will let it settle overnight. Cycled the fuel pump a couple of times like I always do but truck wont restart. I cranked and cranked but no start. I am done for tonight, will continue tomorrow. Thanks.

The filter sounds normal, or not out of the ordinary.

Where is the fuel pressure gauge? If it's post filter then you didn't have a plugged filter.

Are you 100% sure you put diesel and not gas into your truck?

I would start with fuel related issues and go from there.

Thanks, station had dedicated island with diesel pumps only. I agree it sounds fuel related and thats what I will focus on. I need to get it started again so I can figure this out. I will post my progress. Thanks,Charlie.

Thanks, I will do that first and let you know the out come. The FCA is original ,never been changed. By reading other posts in this section it sounds like the FCA is overdue for a change out. Thanks, Charlie.

My friend Chris had to change his original lift pump on his 03 this week. 258k. Same symptoms. He had a new one in the tool box and had it on in 30 minutes. He had to smoke the tires for the dirty max crowd when he left to show it was fixed. Mark

Chances are slim, but gas does end up in diesel tanks... May not hurt to drain the filter and smell it.

Ordered a new FCA from Gino's, should be in later in the week. Truck still wont start even with the FCA unplugged. I checked the shop manual and it states that when the FCA is removed you should hear it rattle when you shake it. Mine does not rattle so maybe it is bad. Checked the fuel again and I dont smell gas in it so I think I can rule that out. I will let everyone know how things go when I get the new FCA.

if the truck did not run with the fca unpluged, it is not the fca. if the cp3 can not build enough rail pressure the ecm will not let it fire. try this. on the prv remove the banjo bolt and place a buisness card between it and the banjo, now try to start and see if any fuel comes out of the prv. if it does it has failed.

Whats the prv and what does it do. The FCA has not arrived yet so I have not done anything to the truck, thus nothing to report. Thanks, Charlie.
