When the 2003 was introduced, somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind, were there 2 engines? I know the HO was 305 and I think there was a 250 Std. engine for Calif.

My question is: Was DC putting the HO engine in trucks that had auto trans. in 03?

At the start of the model year there was only standard output models for auto (47RE). I believe a 250 h. p. and a 235 for California. Mid year they started pumping out H. O. 's with the 48RE. Soon the 48RE's were in all the autos but they were still making S. O. and H. O. until the '04. 5's.

Clear as mud. :)

Prior to jan 1 2003 all autos were SO (Fed or CARB). The HO only came with the 6 spd. and not for CARB. After 1 Jan 2003 (2003. 5 models) the HO was available with the 48RE. 2004 the SO's were only in CARB trim, ALL others were HO's. 2004. 5(build date Jan 1 2004 or later) is the first year of the HO in CARB form.
