I was going to the dealer to get the power steering hose change when I suddenly lost power. I pulled over to the side of the road and tried restarting. The engine would start and sort of run for a few seconds and then die. After a few of these tries it would not even hit. I called roadside assistance and a tow truck was dispatched. The dash display showed a code P0628. The scan tool at the dealership confirmed this code which is low voltage to the lift pump or as the mechanic explained, the lift pump was dead. The mechanic than had to go through hoops and hurdles befor DC would even send a lift pump. The service manager than told me that I need to prove that I have changed fuel filters as specified in the manual. I guess they have had pump failures that they are blaming on clogged filters that have never been changed. My truck came to me with a clogged filter right from new. It was on this site where a member informed us of his filter problems and I checked mine right away. The engine performance improved a 100% after that. Some earlier posts on lift pumps seemed to suggest that the HPCR would run without a lift pump but after today I don't think this is the case. I am beginning to think I should install a fuel pressure guage as time and pennies get available. More bombing. My truck is supposed to be ready tomorrow.
