I ordered a 2004 2500 SLT last week. Yesterday I found out that the protection package, snow plow prep, off road, and satelite radio are on resrtiction at the factory. I am really nervous about the truck taking too long and ending up with an EGR engine so this restriction is killing me. Anyway, I went to the dealer to get a order number so I could keep tabs on things and while there I looked at a '03 they have on the lot. Please look at the two and tell me if I should wait for the '04 or get the '03. Both are the HO/48re combo.

The 2003 is a 3500 srw SLT 4X4 long bed.

The 2004 I have ordered is a 2500 SLT 4X4 shorbed.

The '03 has these options that the '04 on order doesn't

3500 srw

Leather

6 disc in dash cd with Infinity

electronic T-Case (it's not a Laramie).

alloy wheels

sport package

The '03 will cost me about $600 more than my ordered '04.

Would you guys get the '03 or wait for the '04?

the general consensus is that the trucks built in the new year will have the egr, trucks built before 04 should be without the egr

I agree. However, no one knows exactly when the factory will run out of non EGR Cummins and make the switch to EGR trucks. The switch could be earlier than 1-1-04.

true... i am hoping for the best that my truck when it comes in will not have one on it. and if it does, it sure will be removed. if need by, i will buy a new non egr ecm and remove any of the egr plumbing to make it the same spec as a non egr version. if it voids the engine warrenty fine... but i won't have an egr. . !

If you like the '03, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Good Luck.

I would get the 03 also if you dont mind the long bed. If i could only have one truck it deffinately would be a long bed. I have two so i have one of each. $600 isn't bad considering the extra equipment you are getting.

Another thing is that you know what this 03 truck is (non egr) and you are flipping a coin on the ordered truck.

Guy's thanks for you replys. I agonized all night over which truck to get and I decided to stick with my ordered 2004. Don't get me wrong the '03 is a sweet truck but I was not loving the fact that it was a sport and it had soo... . much red, also parked right next to it was a two tone red/silver Hemi 2500 SLT with chrome wheels like my order and it looks awesome.

So with that decided I went to the dealer to cancel the protection group so the truck would hopefully be built sooner. To my surprise the truck is in D status and it appears that DC deleted the protection group. My dealer had his original order form with a order number and it had the protection group listed, today however the price of the truck has increased and the Protection Group was deleted. So in the end I don't get the Protection Group, the dealer is $4 in the hole on the truck due to the hundred and change markup, and hopefully I will have no EGR.
