'03 reciever replacement

On the 3rd gen the hole that the hitch pin goes through has been getting wallowed out to the point i no longer trust the thing. went to my hitch shop today and he is telling me the only thing available is a replacement that fits under the stock receiver tube !! Who out there makes a replacement for the 3 rd gen trucks?

Putnam makes a class 5 hitch that goes for about 250 but you have to cut the factory hitch out.

Same thing happened to my 07's hitch after about 15k miles of towing a 7600 pound trailer. Dealer replaced under warranty but I am not to impressed with the quality. After this hitches hole starts to open up I will put a better hitch on.

The factory one does unbolt from the frame rails, correct, having a hard time telling how its put up in there.

I think you have to unbolt the bed of the truck as the hitch goes over the frame rails IIRC.

Why don't you just ream out the holes and weld in two thick stepped washers

That's how we repair heavy equipment pivot holes.

Is that what you are running?

I'm running the standard SuperHitch with 3' extension. I haul a Truck Camper, car hauler w/Jeep. The SuperHitch Magnum just came out about 2months ago. It has a 2" and 2. 5" opening. Torklift also has a conversion to run standard extensions.

My OE hitch is closer to 2. 25" than 2", so I want to upgrade. . What I plan to do is ditch the OE hitch and get the superhitch for trucks w/out an OE hitch.

What I don't know is if there is a crossmemeber where the hitch sits I will have to buy. . either way when I do the swap I will find out.

Yes it does. AS HoBrian said, you have to unbolt the bed and jack up the back of it to remove the factory receiver.

I personally think this is your best bet. I run it on my 06' with a 36" extension. With just the Super Hitch, my tow rating went up to 17000 lbs/ 750 ball weight..... 12000 lbs/ 500 ball weight with the extension on
