I just got back from a great trip in glamis. On my way home from work on Friday, my truck stalled out in the middle of the rode. Luckily, I had my smarty and was able to pull the code. It said that my lift pump had gone south. I was bummed as I was supposed to leave for Glamis that night. Long story short, I got the rig towed home and installed the bracketry and banjo bolt to bypass the lift pump at the filter. The truck fired right up. So far I have driven over 370 miles with no lift pump and no issues. Oo.

but... you will prematurely kill the injection pump as it is now having to suck fuel from the tank instead of simply sipping it from a pressurized source.

And seeings that the price between the two pumps is a factor of 10+ I'd get a new LP in soon.

It is not my intention to run it that way for long. I am working on getting a replacement pump. I just thought inquiring minds would want to know that it can be done.

P. S. A D-max CP3 sucks its fuel.

my kill switch shuts down the LP. Some times I'll get 1 block if I forget and the truck stalls out. some times I"ll get 10 miles until I get into the peddle on the highway.

i have accedentally driven almost 100 miles without my lift pump connected and i was doing some pretty hard driving during that time. i was very surprised to say the least. cp3 still running good.

Duramax diesel trucks DO NOT have a lift pump. I know that for fact, at least on an 03. The fuel is pumped by the cp3. It does seem necessary to have the lift pump for higher HP applications? I run walbro(s) (255 X3) at 45psi on the old 12v, and love it!, factory parts are the best!, I mean... . 200GPH @ 45psi that is super quite, and reliable! What more could you want? If you have ever heard a 200gph FASS system its loud and anoying.

ASchwartz,

Thanks for the tip! I still have the original lift pump, plan on a Walbro, but will carry the pump replacement banjo as a pump temp alternative. How tough is it to get the stock pump off?

Thank you,

Mickey

Not hard at all, 5mm allen for the pump and a 17mm wrench for the banjo bolt. Took 45 minutes.

I just changed my cp3. If you mean how hard is it to swap out the cp3, it's not something you are gonna do on the side of the road. And you need a special tool to get the gear off the pump. Now that I have done it, it's not that bad and I went thru alot that I didn't have to but I learned alot about how everything worked doing it. I just wish I would have known about the upgraded pumps before I blew the cash on another stock unit.

Just curious how you were able to bypass the dead lift pump?

Did you have to fabricate or buy the adapter fitting in place of the dead lift pump?
