I test drove a new '03 3500 4X4 HO the other day; the dealer encouraged me to run it against my nephew's Duramax. I was embarassed. The Dodge was slug, we ran from a 30 mph roll and the chevy left it like it was tied to a stump. :{ :{

I did pick him up on top end; the chevy stopped fueling at 97 mph. The "03 Dodge topped out at 105 mph. :( :(

I then tried to get my nephew to jump on my 01; it pulls hard from 2000 rpms to 3500 rpms with a 3. 54 diff. ; he didn't want any of it. I don't know how fast mine will run, since it's pegged at 120 mph. :D :D

Anyway, I was disappointed in the new Dodge; but it was quiet. The rear diff. is by AMG ( which is owned by GM, I think); the rear seat & doors are small and the cabin looks cheap. I'm glad my '01 only has 40000 miles on it, I'm going to have it for a long while yet. Oo. Oo.

HUH?

You couldn't keep up with a D Max from 30 in a HO ? What was wrong? Did you miss a shift or something? My HO is kinda sluggish getting to 30, but after that it thinks it's a rocket. The only problem I've seen is hitting those narrow gates when I'm tring to shift a truck like a sports car.

fireman56,

The transmission was stiff, of course it was new; we ran twice because I missed a shift to 5th the first time, then we ran on out till he stopped fueling. The Duramax pulls hard from 60 mph on but, I don't think any harder than mine, then shuts down at 97mph. I really wanted him to run my truck, but he would not, I assume because his Father has been in mine while under excelleration and on top end. I know this is just one case, other '03's may run better. That particular truck will probably do better after breakin, but I don't think the top end will increase much. Anyway, 70-80 mph is plenty fast for normal, sane driving. :p

jpouston,

That truck must have been a slug!!:( I ran against two duraturds in Montana shortly after taking delivery, less than 500 miles. The '03 HO got them both:D. I got 3:73s and DRW, I don't know what gears the jimmy's had but both were 2500 4X4 ext. cabs.

I'm sorry that you were not impressed by the '03 Ram. I certainly am, and I was impressed with my '97 12v and my '00 24v. I did not think this truck would be anything special but in my world it is, and the whiping it but on the duraturds proved it to me. The '03 taught those GMs to hate.

Bomb Em

I test drove an 03 last weekend, and after getting used to 400rwhp/887lb. ft in my 99 it did feel slow;) ,but felt about like mine with the comp turned off, which is about 300hp. I had a hard time with the 6 speed also,it seemed to rev awfully fast. It's about on par with my neighbor dura-dud. I had mom with me and she agreed it didn't have the spunk my 99 does. I did like the tight steering, and had to pop the hood to make sure he didn't give me a gasser:rolleyes: QUIET. The salesman asked me how I'd make it louder. I said"I reckon 5"stacks and loose the muffler and silencer ring would do the trick" :) :) ... Doug

Before I bought my Dodge, I drove a new ferd - I had to push it halfway to the floor just to get it moving!

It was so weak that I now truly believe there was something wrong with it. I'm not trying to bash the ford here but only to suggest there may be huge variations between trucks. I suspect the only way to really evaluate them would be to take a sample of several from each maker.

And then buy the RAM of course... :D

the best

hey fireman that was very funny (miss a shift ) right on the money

anyway over the last 17 years driven just about everything, trucks, heavy equipment, etc... I presently own benz diesel

gm diesel, the pwer joke which is my wifes and of course the

cummins. I don't know why we all waste our time arguing, the

cummins is far better than any of them. 1 last example a guy I

know is on his third duramax the first 2 lemon law. by the way let's wait ten or so years and see how many duramax with

400k on them still around. heard izusu sold the duramax to

volkswagon the chevy know going to have detroit diesel at least thats a step in the right direction series 40??

Flintstones starts

DIESELMAN, Thats great!!! :D No wonder I was so tired after the test drive! When I got back to the dealership and told the sales man of my perceptions he asked me if I'd "floored it"... "Sure" I said, how do ya think I got it off the lot? ;)

Pdog -

So how does MY truck look up there in washington:D

How did you get the sport grill in Patriot Blue? I thought it wasn't available.
