Easy Rider Fifth-Wheel Hitch

I am posting this for a friend that I talked into buying a CTD.

He has a new 2500 auto LB 4x4 non-HO, with 3. 73 rear end.

He is pulling a 8,000 lb. 5th wheel.

He returned from a trip this past week end and said the truck has no "get up and go" in the 40 to 60 mph range.

Before and after that speed he said the truck really has the power, but once over 40 he can put the peddle down and it takes forever to get up speed. This is also on a nearly flat road.

I had told him maybe an Edge EZ would solve this but he is very concerned about his warrenty.

Any sugestions?

Thanks

I can't say for sure about the 03 but on my 01 the ez can be unplugged with no way of telling it had any mods on the truck or not.

call me a dumb-dumb, but...

For the '03's, what is a non-HO? It's not the old 24V is it? I'm assuming not, because I reckon all the '03's are quiet.

What's the h. p. & torque for the non-HO's?

What's the h. p. & torque for the HO's?

As far as your friend, the only thing I know is he probably would've been more satisfied (power-wise) with the manual (and maybe that's the only way to get the HO? Otherwise, I don't know that much about the new trucks, as you can tell.

Just a guess, but it sounds like it might be shifting into OD at 40-45mph with decreased RPM until up to 55-60. Have him turn off OD until 50-60 + see if that helps.

Peak HP is at 2900rpm. This is were the get up and go is. With my 4. 10 ratio this is 58mph. I lock out O/D anytime I need some get up and go if I'm under 58mph. The motor is rated for it. It won't hurt a thing to run it there all day if needed.

JyRO,

Just as in previous years there are two versions of the cummins, one is rated at 250 hp / 460 lb/ft torque and the other (HO) is rated at 305 hp / 555 lb/ft torque. They are both ISBe engines not ISB engines. As a side note they are 24 valve engines also just so no one is confused. As for transmission selection you can now get the HO with an automatic I believe it is the 48RE transmission.

Another Brilliant Dodge Dealer has struck again.....

Look at this EYE-OPENER!

Manual trans. Overdrive ratio... ... ... ... ... ... ... 0. 73

Automatic Overdrive ratio... ... ... ... ... ... ... 0. 69

Automatic with 4:10s 0. 69 X 4:10=... ... . 282. 90

Manual with 3:73s 0. 73 X 3:73=... ... . 272. 29

Automatic with 3:73s 0. 69 X 3:73=... ... 257. 37

There is probably less than 50 rpm differance(at road speed) between an Auto/4:10 and a Manual/3:73.

But when you try to swing a 17 wheel and tire with a final drive ratio of 257 that's TALL! Not to mention a 4X4 pulling 8500#.

And folks wonder why they keep frying auto trannies. . mi dos pesos... ... ... ... .
