03 turbo up grade to 05 turbo ?

is their any difference in the 03 turbo and the 05. I have an 03 5. 9 with stock turbo but i did not want to install the 05 turbo if their is no gain in power or lower egt and so on if any body knows the difference i would appreciate it

Welcome to TDR!!! For the most part... same POS. Go with a Super Phat Shaft 62 or whatever else will go with any mods you plan on doing.

The 03 has a boost pressure controled wastegate, the 05 has an electronic wastegate. It won't work.

But, I'm not sure if you could change out the wastegates and controls or not. Someone else should know.

If you do the swap just run a tube with manifold pressure to the wastegate and control it with a boost elbow (turning it into a manual gate). The older tst did this and it works great, thats how I run mine w/smarty (40psi). I know that the exhaust housing is still way undersized, but I thought that the compressor was larger on the 04. 5 and up turbos? Like stated before, maybe not worth it. Anyways here are some photos to clarify the wastegate. Welcome to TDR, Nick.

It can be done and has been.



You just need a little boost line kit that TST sells to operate the 04. 5(and up) turbos wastegate manually.



Yeah, the 2004. 5 through 2007 turbos have a 62mm inducer wheel and larger compressor housing.
