May be injectors or crossover tubes (lines from rail to injector) The ECM needs to see a minimum pressure in the rail before it will fire the injectors and if you have too much leakage the minimum pressure won't be reached by cranking with starter and engine will not start. This was the problem on my 03. It was also an intermittent problem. A battery problem can also do some weird things. As mentioned above you will need to trouble shoot. I had mine to a dealer and it started to become a real clusterf#k so I got the truck to an excellent diesel shop where the problem was diagnosed and repairs made. It was expensive but the engine started and ran better than when new.
