Would 03/04 guys see any performance improvements from installing

an 04. 5/05 turbo.

It seems the newer turbos have a little larger exhaust housing

and can make 30+ psi within thier efficiency range.

Seems it would be pretty easy to change the waste gate actuation.

Anyone have any opinions on if this would be worth the $ or effort.

Thanks,

Carl

I thought that was the general concensus until I read

DeLeno's article in issue 47 TDR. He found any increase

in boost just made heat.

Carl

Stock 03 is about 25 psi. DeLeno did not recommend adding

any boost elbows as it resulted in significant temp increases

across the turbo.

Clayton, do you have the edge elbow on? What max boost levels

do you see?

Thanks,

Carl

With the Juice/attitude I'll see up to 34psi spike with no elbow. It will stay steady around 29 psi +/- . . I didn't like how fast my turbo spooled up with the elbow on and how high the psi got. I have a 0-35psi gauge and with the elbow the psi would be past what the guage would read and stay there. That scared my so I took of the elbow.

Does anyone have access to the maps for these two

turbos to see if there is much difference between the two,

and to clarify what is the boost ceiling before they just

make heat?

Thanks all.

Carl

My 2005 seems to take longer to max out the egt than my 2003 did ,I assumed it was the fact that it likes to run around 48psi without the tst boost elbow.

Bringing this back to the top. I am starting to see these turbos for sale real cheap. What would be involved in this swap? Would it be worth the effort involved?

You might want to investigate some of the aftermarket turbos. Some of them sound pretty good and the prices are not that bad. Just a thought; not trying to be smart.

Aftermarkets are reasonably priced, but probably not as reasonable as a guy looking to unload his stock 05 turbo after a turbo upgrade of his own :)

Might get one for $100 or so, I would think
