Guys-

I reported this problem/solution weeks ago.

The solution is to have the dealer replace the rear driveshaft and the transfercase. I had to get the roving tech involved, but it is fixed. Smooth as glass now...

I appreciate knowing what fixed your truck,... that helps us understand better what our dealers are unwilling to do for us as mine says they aren't going to "JUst throw parts at it". You've obviously got a good dealer or factory guy. Mine says just wait till chrysler comes out with a fix,... they aren't denying it has a problem, only they won't go to the transfercase without blessing from a supreme diety. Who the heck did you get them to go the extra mile,... and don't tell me get loud and obnoxious, as I've been there.

That is exactly the same story I'm getting. I believe Chryster knows what the problem is and has put an end to diagnosis and repairs until they put a package together in TSB form. I guess it's worth a wait but I won't wait much more than a month or so before I turn th eheat back on. Mines livable but I won't be satisfied till something THEY acknowledge is fixed.

O3 555 here with the same symptoms. Have been waiting patiently for DC to come up with a fix (12 months, 29 k miles later). Dealer felt they had a number of cures. Took her in and they diagnosed a "bent driveline". Ordered a new rear driveshaft which comes in next week. TCase is left alone (for now). Fingers crossed... ... ...

Out of all the threads and posts I've read on this,... and I think I've seen most of them between this site and Diesel Truck Resource, there have been two posts of success and both of them had the transfercase changed and one guy had a front shaft changed and claimed success. It seems to me that the power to get something done is in our sheer volume of dissatisfied owners who are waiting, waiting, waiting... ... I don't recall them waiting for their $$$. We need to ALL hit the Dodge web site and file a written complaint and also call the 800 # in your manual and make it a real concern for these folks. If we don't act together nothing will get done. My take.

Yo Hoot,

I was told last summer when the rep got involved with my old truck there was a fix in the works. This was almost a year ago. Unfortunately, there is no rush on this one. I personally believe that many of us who have this problem have it for different reasons and therefore there is no simple fix. The cost out weights the benefit to fix this problem. :{ IMHO.

Mine's got it at 65-75 mph. The vibe is strongest at 72 mph. It feels to me like the front drive shaft is out of balance. I've now got 200 miles on it and the transmission has already been out for an oil leak. Don't get me wrong, this truck is awesome , and I'm confident in my dealer's service dept. I'm just a little disappointed in the quality control dept from the factory. Once this last bug is out of it, I'll really be happy. I'm quite sure mine is driveline related because, I put it in neutral and coasted and the vibe didn't change with rpms or lack there of.

My dealer thought the same,... front shaft. They say they took it out and no vibration or droan. Then we had it rebalanced,. . it did take new weights,. . but same old droan. Next we did the rear shaft and still the droan. The only guys I've read about with fixes (2) had the transfercase changed. What doesn't make sense to me is they say the 6-spd and the auto take the same transfercase but you hardly hear of the 6-spd having this problem. Very few in comparison.

Could be the 6 speeds being built with a different supply of T-cases on another line?

Maybe the 6-speed positions the case at a slightly differnt angle?

Could be the shaft coming out of the auto is effecting the T-case differently.

Just some possibilities.

So far... ... last trip dealer replaced the rear drive shaft, rotated the pinion, added rubber between the transfer case and frame, squirted foam in the frame, disconnected the exhaust / transmission support and it has gotten worse. Last piece is the power steering hose. Anyone know off hand if the 7/70,000 will extend to the transfer case if this is the issue in the end? I have 30K on her now.

After installing my 5" exhaust, changing the diff lube and installing a Mag-Hytec rear cover and having it reprogrammed for the 315 tire (601 revs per mile), the vibration at 70 mph is totally gone.

I have no idea where it went.

Guess I would have felt it on the way than. Duh

No, I have enough sense to go through an entire range of speeds every time I get on the highway now cause I can't beleive it's gone.

If I am keeping it in the drone range (about 70 m/h) and apply more power, the drone will get worse, which means the severity is load related.

Does everybody share this aspect?

BTW, I also own a 2WD and no drone what so ever.

Vibration issue

I notice it between 65-75mph. It is definately not an engine problem. I was going to look at the possibility of a bad cord in a tire, but after reading this I am going to take it to the dealer.

Just thought I would throw in my experience on this subject. I own a site construction business and recently took delivery of 5 04. 5 3500 SRW Q-cab 4x4 trucks. One of the said trucks had this same vibration. After two tries the dealer finally replaced the rear driveshaft, no change:confused: Finally had to replace the front driveshaft and this cured the problem. Oo. :D
