I attached the photo of my under battery sensor that I need. Is Your 04. 5 a Auto?

Don't go by what others APPS look like, your configuration is the only one that matters as they interchanged these things at times.

The picture oyur posted looks a lot like the ones on Hoesli's site. Can you get a better picture from the side so we can see the attachement spoints and form better? The straigth down shot doesn't give a good sense of the configuration. It looks to me like it is indeed like the ones I pointed you too but it tough to validate.

My sensor is hard plastic and the plug is part
Of the plastic casing. I will snap a picture.

The photo will be holding the camera near the stock fuel filter and looking under the driver side battery tray at the sensor. Sensor itself is above the spring.

Aw crap, sorry to hear that. Annoying they list that for 2003-2007 but it doesn't work on 03-04 trucks.

Evidently that was a one-off unit sourced by Dodge only, total pain if you can't find one. I wonder how hard it would be to convert to the engine mounted style.

I think I found the SOB..... !!!Oo.

I had to go up into an '05 truck to do it. It is the same as a 5. 7 HEMI which makes sense if you think about it.

53032456AD.

If you scroll down this page from E-Bay and check the fitment you will see mention of the years that it fits. They present it as any under battery box TPS including the Cummins. Check it out... .

I realize that listing has ended but if you verify that this is the one then we have a starting point... ...

According to the info on that page the part number is 53032456AE, replaces all the previous ones.

The listing for the diesel engine in 05 is incorrect as the starting in 05 the APPS was on the firewall. Possibility there is a slight overlap but have never heard of it.

The FSM shows the same part for the Gas and Diesel engine in 04 when it is under the battery tray, at least from the picture. Hopefully they are interchangeable or results may be less than adequate.

At this point, sounds like its the best shot at getting something that will even fit the location if it is available somewhere.

Mike, how about the place you sourced the TPS for the gen 2 trucks from? Possibly they have something that would work?

He (Smitty) would have to take the unit out from under the battery and get the actual TPS out so that we can see it. The ones that I have played with are manufactured by Williams Controls, they are the leader and main supplier of TPS units for Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks. Usually part of the foot throttle but do the same job and many times mount the same regardless of location. The hang up with my second gen research has been rotation.

A note about the parts catalogs we have access to. (the sticky at the beginning of the 3rd Gen, No engine or trans discussions).

You sometimes have to come up a year to find the right info in there.

My Mega does not even exist in the '06 pdf, have to go up to '07 and then it shows up.

I had the same trouble with his '04. Only TPS shown there was mounted to the engine. went up to an '05 and Bingo. There it was shown for use with both the 5. 7L Hemi and 5. 9L CTD.

My on-line link to Quirk Dodge would not even show the TPS, only offered the flat rate labor to R&R.

Here is another link, look at the fitment chart at the bottom. Pull it down and it fits just about any '04 Ram from the 1500 on up.

There does not seem to be any of the new ones available right now as some have told him already.

I think that I would try a salvage yard, LKQ, etc. as that opens up a whole new avenue... . Check it out.

Here is a half decent picture of it... .

Mike,

Impressive job! The next time I come north I will have to stop by and buy you some beers! :)

My parts guy at my closest Dodge dealer just finally got back to me about the APPS. It indeed is that part number. I have since searched and found some at a Texas Dodge dealer that also has them listed on Ebay! I have ordered one and he is sending it next day. I will report back to make sure it is the correct part when it arrives. He claims returns are ok if a problem. Something you do not see with electrical parts.

Is the part number going to be different for an auto 04. 5 ? Good Job Mike and Cerb

Yes, should be the one that is availble from a Cummins dealer. The autos all had the engine mounted apps to use the TV cable until 05 when it was moved. The Timbo apps is for the auto trucks and the manuals that used the same design.

Not to self, never buy a manual truck with the APPS under the battery. This would make me mad enough to figure out how to convert it to an engine mount APPS.

There are 15 dealers with PN 53032456AE in stock. Not sure how hard your dealer tried to source one. There is a quantity of 540 in route from supplier to Chrysler as of yesterday.

Thinking through it a little more, I suppose you could change to the 05 style pedal and sensor inside the cab. It is listed for $150 and included the pedal and sensor. You would however have to wire the sensor (different APP connector?) from under the battery to inside the cab. Also if it was an auto you would have to deal with the throttle pressure cable. Just a thought if you were really in a bind.

Do you have any feel for how much of a problem doing this would be? Crusie control vs Speed Control, signal differences, etc? Is programming invloved and how would thta work?

The OP has a manual so the TV cable is not an issue for him, but, one day this odd ball piece is going to be history the way things are going.

Yes, just by luck I found one and replaced mine. Mopar # 53032456AE. It's the same as pictured above by mwilson. This fits under the left battery tray on my 2004. 5 and sold for $300. I found it at dieselautopower.com , 951-377-4844, Jacob Kidd. Don't know if he has another.

I've contacted Dodge about their 11 month old list of backorders on this part and their response has been "we're sorry for the inconvience".

I'm trying to find who manufactures this potentieometers, maybe a solution. If so I will post.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Tonight there are 135 dealers with the part in stock. Depot stock depleted again, but there are still 540 pieces on the way.
