2004. 5 Dually 87,600 miles, Built early January 04.
Monday I was driving thru Cleveland, Ohio (250 miles from home) accelerating the on ramp to get on I-80, when Ka-Pow black smoke out the exhaust, Shake Rattle and Roll into the rest area one mile up. Engine was rough running, spewing smoke and oil. Oil was coming out of a crack in the exhaust manifold and bubbling out from between the turbo and the manifold, and blowing out past the valve cover gasket. I spent the night in the truck and called the local dealer in the morning.
Tuesday and still no answer other than Injector Kill Test shows problem with cylinder #5. that they are going to pull the head tomorrow... . thinking it is a hole in the piston. I rented a car and a motel for the night.
Wednesday... I sat at dealer all day..... at 5pm they said they didn’t work on it today but I should go home to Indiana as it will be a week until any possible repair could be complete. Informed me that a hole in the piston warrants replacing a piston only not a complete motor. (I drove home)
Thursday I called at 5pm and was told they found a hole in the piston and a hole in the cylinder. complete motor replacement! Waiting to find out about parts availability tomorrow.
